In this video I walk through the spreadsheets I lean on for my investment process. This is the second of two long tools videos - if you can only watch one, watch this one. Recorded on 6/23/20.
The primary sheets include:
- 3:30 Universe: for maintaining my universe of stocks
- 21:35 Company: for performing fundamental analysis
- 39:12 Tracker: for tracking stocks
--- 39:12 dashboard
--- 43:46 Roaring Kitty portfolio
--- 1:03:05 Buy/Sell lists
--- 1:05:45 Pulse list
--- 1:06:45 Trend list & commentary on March 2020
--- 1:18:27 Industry filter
--- 1:22:01 Industry breakout
--- 1:26:20 Daily movers
--- 1:32:54 Insider buying
--- 1:38:38 CSV export
--- 1:42:31 Screener
--- 1:45:25 Exporting filtered data to CSV = painful tangent unless you're a spreadsheet nerd
--- 1:48:35 Rounding it out
The Roaring Kitty channel revolves around educational live streams where I share my daily routine of tracking stocks and performing investment research.
My investment style involves continually tracking thousands of stocks using a variety of widely available tools. When opportunity strikes - as it occasionally does in markets comprised of biased humans - I’m prepared to pounce and capitalize on the situation. I'm probably best classified as a fundamentals-focused deep value investor, though I find I'm increasingly leaning on technical analysis for screening, timing, and tracking stocks. In the years ahead I look forward to honing my portfolio management approach by acquiring bolt-on skillsets and further developing my approach to risk management.
Some of the tools I use: Google Chrome, Chrome extensions & search engines, Google Sheets / Google Apps Script / StackOverflow, StockCharts, insider buying via OpenInsider, stock ownership via WhaleWisdom, SEC filings via sec.gov, SeekingAlpha, Twitter, Quandl / Sharadar, and bond prices via FINRA.
The Roaring Kitty channel and live streams are for educational purposes only. I share my approach to investing in an effort to set you on the right path to building out your own investment process. I don't provide personal investment advice or stock recommendations during the stream. Please understand that my style of investing is extremely aggressive and I take on a substantial amount of risk. It's likely my approach would not be suitable for you. If you're seeking personalized advice, I encourage you to sit down with a financial professional who can review your personal situation, financial background, risk tolerance, etc. Check out the Roaring Kitty disclaimer video for more information: • Roaring Kitty - Discla...

@@MuffinManStories I'm more of a day/swing trader, but I do use certain fundamentals in my research before I build a thesis. I tend to scalp intraday and build into a larger long term position. You really need a combo of technical and fundamental research to be successful in this game, and even then you could be wrong. One of RK's submissions on WSB showed he had a drawdown of 50% on G_M_E prior, most would have closed that position unless they were truly confident in its upside potential. Just added insider trading, and market sentiment as part of that thesis thanks to DFV. Will have to thank him someday for the tips.

I am a software developer watching this to get ideas on how to build out my automated trading bot using market data APIs... just know that there are plenty of people just as nerdy as you (if not more) and this is fascinating. You're right when you say it would be easier to build the features you want (the submit button, connecting everything together in one UI instead of multiple sheets, automatically updating the portfolio, buy, sell sheets, etc). I think you wouldn't have trouble finding someone to help you build out that platform, I personally would love to do it, it sounds fun. It's fun to build something for someone like you who has such a pure vision of what you want and such a grateful attitude. You deserve all the success you have had. Hey DFV, thank you for the content you made. I've learned more from your videos than any courses or whatnot, and coolest of all you were perpetually humble and open to critism. Thank you :)

Coming back to these videos months after I first saw them and didn't understand heads or tails of them, then going through literal weeks worth of DD over the coming months after the spike in January and now understanding so much of this has shown me just how far I've come as an investor. And how much further I need to go. I sincerely hope you continue making youtube videos DFV/Roaring Kitty/Keith. To call you a genuine guru would be an understatement and I sincerely want to keep learning from you. Thank you. So much. For everything.

Loved every minute of your video Keith. Tracking the insider buying is such a simple concept, and proved especially fruitful in a correcting market. I checked every ticker in the "Roaring Kitty Portfolio" and many of them have performed well since the 52 week lows in March 2020. Congrats on each of these positions, as well as GME. I look forward to watching the next Live stream!

As of today TSE, RRC, PTEN, PBF, NGD, RFP, CNR, PUMP, and OVV have all had over 100% gains. 9/9 of his top stocks in this video had +100% gains, many 400-500% at their peaks. FTK and WTTR weren't great, but weren't losses either. MAC is another +100% and we know how GME turned out. 11/13 of the top stocks in his portfolio in this video went up over 100% at their highs within 2 years. Solidifed GOAT

I agree that sorting by movers + insider buying is impressive. Thanks for sharing your style. You're the first I've seen to invest in distressed equity and it totally makes sense. I had only heard of distressed debt in the past. I learned from reading books that one should invest in low debt companies ;)

😱 my head exploded when you opened up the filter! 😭 I’m 52, started doing my own research on ETF’s on my own money 10 years ago. Thank goodness I did. I have been around 8-12% a year on my money. I feel bad that I didn’t start sooner. 2 years ago started with individual stocks, I love your information and process. I tried to do the same thing early on regarding finding value but it would be very time consuming. However since then the only thing missing from my arsenal is a deck of uno cards. 😬😂👍🤘🏽 Thanks again!

Man if you started a hedge fund I would apply solely due to your genuine nature. I feel like he’s the boss that can talk to you about your losing positions in a way that inspires you, not rip you apart. Won’t get upset that you need to take care of a family member, or at much of anything, but you wouldn’t dare let him down out of respect. Subbed for sure. Thanks for saving me $ on buying excel!

Watching him succeed is like watching your cool older brother. So damn proud of him and think it couldn't happen to a better person. He cares so much about the little people and shelled out so much to everyone else even though at the time he was dealing with so many struggles. Such a selfless individual and the only wish I have that's close to GME hitting the moon, is to meet DFV and shake his hand. You the man Keith Gill!

Your spreadsheets look exactly like all of the spreadsheets I encountered while working for a Fortune 100 financial company. I, too, would think to myself "This would be a lot better if it were just a program with a simple user interface."

You make me feel very comfortable about how nerdy and lazy I am. You are an absolute legend in value trading. Historic. Some look for growth, some want a store of value, some maximize dividends with growth and compound...but value, man? Deep value? So interesting to see, and it's amazingly educational.
