I still remember this match and the entire Ind South africa zim tri series!!!! I was in 8th std and had to sleep when i thought ind would lose the match! When i met my friend in the morning while goin to school he told me the match was tied...and when i heard that I yelled like crazzy and wanted to go back and see the highlights on tv.. the whole day after school was waiting for the highlights to come on star sports as i bunked my tuition classes. Kya din they woh!!!! MAGICAL 90's and the tri series! which are so so rare nowadays as it does generates money...the bcci is interested only in Bilateral series as it makes sure ss long as India is playing trp/ads/sponsers generate hote rahengay! I am from a boarding school and in those days FM was a big deal......we were not allowed any electronic gadget but few of us used to keep FM secretly just for commentary of these matches.....and I remember once the network was very poor and the signal was coming from only one position and as soon as I moved my hand the signal would disappear....so we used to hold the FM in one position for the entire match so that we would not miss even a single delivery...man those were really a golden period....I wish I could go back to my school days

One shot I remember vividly was played by Dave Houghton during this series against India (I guess India, South Africa & Zimbabwe triangle series played in South Africa), which was a "perfect cover drive" . The way he was poised and how he despatched the ball to the boundary was delectable. Sunny Gavaskar insisted the replay to be repeated a coupla times and said "this is how a perfect cover drive should be played. I want the youngsters to watch it and learn from it". If my memory serves right , it was during that same match, Dave Houghton(team coach) and Alistair Campbell(captain) were at either end of the pitch. The commentator remarked "we don't get to see a coach and captain playing at the same time ".

Mates, the best Indian match ever was Ind v Australia 1992 WC, when India were chasing 260 odd. Rain effected. We had to make 250+ in 47 overs and we gave it all only to fall short by a run in the last ball. Azza made 97 and Manjrekar 42 of 20 odd balls. We lost but India played like lions. Unforgettable.

I won't blame a tailender but it made the difference. Robin Singh realized and waited for wide signal but Prasad was blindly running which was premeditated. Had he stayed at the crease Robin would have had to score single on last ball. Awesome finish though.

please dont compare robin singh or anyone for that matter to LANCE KLUSENER. I have never till date seen another all rounder of his callibre. there can be poor man versions of Klusener but that sportsman has singularly remained stuck in my mind without anyone coming close to him since.

those days we'd always feel happy and joyful whenever a weaker team wins the match against a good side. be it Zimbabwe or Kenya, I'd watch the higlights with such excitement to see their winning moments. they were so humble and well behaved whenever they won a match. but now weaker teams like Bangladesh have changed the trend. they behave so cheap and violent when they win one out of 20 games and that only irritates me and doesn't make me encourage them. sadly ...

the match was all but lost until Robin Singh came. A great transformation unbelievable. Remember watching this match with friends but went to sleep when India was losing wickets fast and the next day realized I missed all the thrills. Craig Evans was one tough player and Eddo Brandes was a superb bowler, he certainly had put on some weight when I first saw him in the 87 world cup he had appeared a very good prospect.
