Great video Rob! Really enjoying these. How thick was the carbon barrel wall?
@RobAllenSpearfishing

The carbon barrel is the same rail barrel we use for our standard carbon gun. The wall is 1,35mm thick.

great stuff! would have loved to see the comparison against other brands' carbon barrels, which are usually much thicker! great to watch nonetheless :)

These videos are very helpful but do not have many views, maybe you could implement a similar marketing strategy to coke cola where they would buy fridges for shops on the condition most of the shelves must have coke products. You could buy TVs for spearfishing stores and a certain amount of playtime must display informational or promotional videos for rob allen. Just an idea

👍 Thanks for your suggestion but.... We are a small company in the world of business and, fortunately still growing due to demand. To spend big money on marketing would mean it would have to come from somewhere. Only option would be to increase the product price to cover this, not something I like doing nor, would customers want it. We are fortunate enough that the factory runs at max production the majority of the time, so spending more on marketing will mean more need for expansion and, more headaches. We already have 65 staff here, sometimes it is like running a kindergarten 😜 I make these videos to "put the record straight" regarding how and why we manufacture the way we do. There had been many who claimed, "We just get everything made in China." These videos were to stop that. Also, it is there for all to use and learn from. Some retailers do put up a screen and on occasions run clips. I leave entirely up to them to do so if they want.

Hi Rob, it would be nice to tranlate these into rubber setups. The force applied here is perpendicular to the barrel, but to get e.g 64 kgs of such direction of force from rubbers (as shown for simple aluminium), how many rubbers would you need? Would a 1.3m aluminium RA gun flex with let's say 2 16 mm rubbers?
@RobAllenSpearfishing
@RobAllenSpearfishing Жыл бұрын
Hi Christos, you are right, the rubbers apply very little of their load in this direction. The main reason for increasing the stiffness is to prevent as much flex as possible . This will eliminate any possible affect on the accuracy. A 1300 aluminum barrel with 2 x 16mm will have slight flex when loaded. If you powered it up by putting 3 x 16mm it will be noticeable and have an effect but the added recoil would be much more.

Dear Mr Allen, kindly wonder why would you make a composite of timber and carbon instead of just making a pure cuttlefish carbon tube? Kind Regards, Rui
@RobAllenSpearfishing
@RobAllenSpearfishing Жыл бұрын
Firstly, this gives us the ability to make way more options in terms of shape and or size. With a carbon cuttlefish shape you make a single mould and or shape per size. We make 10 sizes and 2 to 3 variations of each. If we don't like a shape we change it even slightly, no problem. You can't do this with a mould, you'd need to make a whole new mould at great expense. Secondly, stiffness. With the pull-truded carbon inner tube it is way stiffer. We did make some carbon moulds to make the same shape as the wood side stocks but way to much work to have the variety.

Not really as each is balanced specific for set up.

Interesting stuff, is there a way to measure the buoyancy difference between a carbon and aluminum railgun? I saw a video where Chris coates was saying a 1m aluminum gun won't float a roller head aswell as a 1m carbon. Is this correct or am I misunderstanding him? Cheers!
@RobAllenSpearfishing
@RobAllenSpearfishing 2 жыл бұрын
Chris is correct. Carbon is much lighter so adds buoyancy. No real easy way to measure as there are many variables depending on gun set up. Sometimes just adding a reel will be the difference between floating and sinking without the spear. Even the line type on the reel can be enough to change it.

@@RobAllenSpearfishing thanks for the reply.. I guess it's a fine line with a rail gun when adding any weight to it, ill keep the short aluminum gun standard and save up for a carbon roller! Cheers
