Thank you so much for this review! Since this is such a new sword nobody really has anything to say about it yet. The things you criticized the rapier for are what really make it stand out to me since I only put one finger over the guard and don't really press the pommel against my wrist. If they gave more options for things like cup size or even customized parts I think it'd go a long way to make sure everyone gets the rapier they want.

No argument there.

Not just in the States - in the vast majority of European tournaments tips are taped, and quite often with a piece of leather as well. Mine took a set in the first spar, but it was quite easy to correct it. The cup also has a couple of marks from hard cuts, but I presume we cut harder here on the Balkans :). Btw, you might like the fullered variant better - it has a bit more presence and weight.

Thanks, I am definitely a fan of the heavier blades.

Thank you for your review! Are you considering having a forge (like sigi) at tiger castle?
@RobertChildsRapier Жыл бұрын
There will definitely be a forge. As to who runs it, that remains yet to be seen.

Pommels are a problem. Many companies put this round pummel which i have to replace for the reasons u mentioned. Round pummel may be fine for a cutting blade, not for a rapier the way we use it today. And yes, the cup is too small.
@RobertChildsRapier Жыл бұрын
With those corrections I mentioned, though, it becomes an excellent rapier for use by people with large hands like myself. I don't doubt it is a simple fix by SIGI for those that require it.

@@RobertChildsRapier I use the modern french grip foil pummel to replace the 'historical' ones ;)

Are HEMA tournaments requiring gauntlets for rapier now?
@RobertChildsRapier Жыл бұрын
Not like those required for longsword. What I am speaking of are the elk hide gloves I prefer. They are thicker and more robust.

Hey Rob, how does it feel compare to the castille economy?
@RobertChildsRapier Жыл бұрын
I actually can't tell you because I don't have any Castille economy blades. The sword I use is the same one I've used for the last 30 years. Even the blade--though I get those from Castille--is a custom blade different from what you will find on any other.

The blade appears to have a groove down its length. Doesn't that make it an epee rather than rapier?
@RobertChildsRapier Жыл бұрын
Must have been a trick of the light because there is no groove down the length of the SIGI rapier. Further, it is the construction of the blade which differentiates a rapier blade from an epee blade, not the groove you are used to seeing in pretty much all epees.

Holy crap, is that the correct way to pronounce quillions?
@RobertChildsRapier Жыл бұрын
Well, there's the French way and the English way. I was taught early on the French way and it just stuck.
@TalesForWhales Жыл бұрын
Oh the French way. Is that why Mr. Easton smiled when you said it that way? He loves Napoleon just ask him and offer him a baguette.
@tubekulose7 ай бұрын
The French way would rather be "Kee-Yo(n)".

SIGI must be making even more review pieces than products for sale, they're everywhere these days!
