I interviewed Rob in 1977 at the Cannock Post House Hotel and Rob was a kind thoughtful man who later invited me to meet him in Walsall at his house-and his Mum. I was working for the local rag The Walsall Observer at the time and I had to fight to get the interview into print due to being told 'they are nobody's', they will go nowhere'. He has not changed a bit. A real gentleman. Thanks for that moment Rob.

That’s awesome! I’d love to read that interview. Interesting to think a lot of brilliant 70s bands were written off or not given the respect they deserved at the time and here we are almost 50 years later (not to make anyone feel old) and we’re still talking about Priest and Halford is still waving the flag for all of us outcasts. I live in the US but identify personally with more music from Birmingham, UK than anywhere else

Having the benefit of time passed on our side it sure is amusing to hear they "won't get anywhere". I grew up listening to Judas Priest, buying a CD on a whim in the 2000s when I was an early teen. Ended up buying quite a few more. Actually seen them perform for the first time a few months ago. I thought once in my life I want to see them at least.

this is easily one of the better halford interviews i've seen. he traditionally has a "script" of talking points that he never wavers from. he's very relaxed and casual here.

So true, they were vitriolic back in the day! The NME re the Diamonds & Rust single: "Ample revenge for some of the things Joan Baez has done to Bob Dylan songs ... bad enough to make you even wish back for Deep Purple, all might not be forgiven, but at least mercifully forgotten". Re the Sin After Sin album: "Then the music slows down to give the guitars room for aimless interplay." An NME woman journo about Judas Priest live circa Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine era: "Never seen an act so studded with male insignia, but lacking any true virility." She must have had a hunch that Rob wasn't singing for HER (or other females in the audience)! 🤣

I'd heard of Judas Priest the band but never heard their songs (being from a traditional Indian household). Recently I saw a thumbnail of an elderly gentleman on a KZbin with the title Trial By Fire. I thought let me just give it a listen. And I was absolutely blown away!! The music, the guitar play and Rob's voice. Just breathtakingly amazing. Been trying to listen to as much as Judas Priest now as possible. I absolutely loved Invincible Shield. May Judas Priest keep rocking for long!! This was a really good interview. Rob is such a humble person.

This is the best in depth interview with Rob I've ever seen. He responded in such an amicable, honest, down to earth way. 24:26 He also revealed who he is, how that felt for him at the time and now, and gave incredible strength within that message. His fans did not leave. It honestly did'nt matter to them at all. He was already very highly respected and cemented as a pillar in heavy metal history. He had their support. You have to learn to love yourself first to love others next, and enjoy living your life on your own terms.

Just release them, as Rob said, people listen to music differently now. You won't have boneheaded 80s mentality metal fans disgruntled after Turbo and boycotting the band b/c they released music made with pop producers that most people today won't recognize from just their names alone. Friggin leak the damn tracks already!!!

KK Downing left of his own accord and has since never stopped publicly insulting the band. One week he'll say he doesn't regret leaving them and the next he'll be outraged they haven't asked him back. Ian Hill formed the band with him and both Halford and Glenn Tipton have been in the band long enough for it not to matter. KK could write their collective biggest masterpiece (but they already did that) and he'd still destroy the band with his erratic behaviour. Let it go.
@georgerolandwills7576
@georgerolandwills7576 8 ай бұрын
Well I'm about halfway through CONFESS, and I really don't know how any of them put up with Rob Halford as long as they did. Talk about your erratic behavior; Rob actually admits to being one of the biggest scumbags in history, and seems rather proud of it. He is really blowing this gay thing all out of proportion; I've known plenty of gay people, absolutely none of them were as demented as Rob claims to be. That's the problem with getting to know someone; you get to know them. From my point of view, I'm looking at two marginal bands, neither of which seem to be able to be greater than the sum of their parts. But I personally don't care what your pissing contest is, whether you are a Lennon and McCartney, Roger Waters and David Gilmour, Sebastian and Snake, Roth and Van Halen, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, or even at times the Heart sisters... It's that friction which creates great music; so suck it up, get back in the damned studio, and entertain us. Either that, or just quit and shut the hell up. You've already shot your wad. It's over. We pay you to get along, and to create masterpieces. If you're not doing that, then go away. And Ian Hill is such a creative force, isn't he? Four strings... never says a word.... I think he does a great impression of the last man standing... Which, granted, is exactly how Richard Petty used to win all his races... but I would rather watch Jeff Gordon's wins, as he was out there winning stuff that he was not supposed to be winning... The stuff that is controversial; the stuff that matters. Judas Priest will have finally quit, and gone home... and Ian will still be standing back there, staring at those four strings. I can't blame him with being a metal God, I don't think he created that; I think he just rode along on a great big wave... Nothing wrong with that... But you really can't put him in the company of the triumvirate, any more than you can put Andy Sneap in there.
