THE ODD COUPLE - Chris Broussard & Rob Parker react to JJ Redick's comments, ripping fans for going crazy over his Doc Rivers comments and not being all that into his basketball breakdown video. Rob rips JJ for these comments and believes he should leave First Take if that bothers him so much.

My problem with JJ is that these player podcasters are way too nice about every player in the league because they never want to hurt the feelings of a “peer”… but now JJ wants to switch up and act like he’s always giving his honest analysis, that’s simply not true and he knows it deep down. I watched his pre-season analysis of all 30 NBA teams and he said nothing negative about ANY of them, that’s simply ignoring the fact that about half the teams get worse every season, how is that analysis? JJ getting on his high horse and acting like he’s a basketball purist now is annoying at least

@@johnnybuchananjr9344I don’t watch the JJ Reddick podcast, and most player podcasts, anymore for that reason… I think it’s fair to give them a chance. When it comes to players it is "see no evil, speak no evil". When it comes to fans it is "let them eat cake". Players could take a leak on the court and JJ would give the fans the angry face for not applauding loud enough.

I remember on the podcast with Demar Derozan. He was going on and on about perfecting the art of shooting. And then Demar casually and unknowingly blasted him by saying he had to worry about a lot more facets of the game than just shooting 😂 Other than that, I'll only watch when Tim Legler is on.

Great point and my answer to that is that they sold their souls to the drama of sports media. They probably once were respected journalists in whatever paper that they were at or whatever position they were at before they went to television. But once you go to television you literally have to be a character. Rob Parker has been a character literally ever since I've seen him on television. So has Chris broussard. I mean, in fairness, this was JJ’s main point. He was answering Stephen A’s claims that the perceptions on KD would be more favorable if he explained the game and JJ responded by saying no one cares about the X’s and O’s…Rob and Chris were blinded by the soundbite

This is quite silly IMO. I don't think Rob listened to the whole conversation on First Take. JJ was saying that KD doesn't need to educate the audience about basketball - countering Stephen A's argument. His point being that players breaking down basketball is not something the larger audiences care about. He is actually implying that audiences care more about takes than analysis - in agreement with Rob hilariously!

It's so ironic that Rob Parker thinks he's criticizing JJ when he's actually agreeing. Stephen A is saying KD should educate fans about basketball. JJ Redick was responding to Stephen As point that KD should rather educate people on the game instead of replying to random tweets. JJ wasn’t saying “I have breakdown videos that don’t get views” He brought that up because he does educate the audience but no one cares… So why should KD do it. Broussard and Parker was so off this segment and it was kind of sad

That still proves Stephen A's point tho. KD keeps saying all he wants to do is ball, without any criticism, and yet he makes these constant hot takes, usually dumb takes too, like how he's a GOAT player or how Lebron was toxic and then he copied Lebron's movements, or talking about other players like Russ, Dray, etc, when he can't handle anything back. SAS was saying that KD should answer questions with knowledgeable takes like why he does certain things. JJ said, no KD should continue giving dumb takes cause that's what people like, while JJ himself says he doesn't like those hot takes. This dude makes no sense. Just like KD, he has no idea what he's doing.

JJ is straight hustling. What JJ Reddick is really trying to do is put himself in position to become a future NBA head coach who doesn't have any head coaching experience or assistant coaching experience that's no different than Mark Jackson and Steve Kerr who both were hired by the Golden State Warriors who both had zero head coaching experience or assistant coaching experience. JJ Reddick is only using ESPN, being a NBA game announcer and a regular member of " First Take" (he could care less) so he can be shown and seen by NBA team owners as a smart basketball analyst so he can be hired by a NBA team as soon as possible, that's why he's always talking breakdown technical basketball and analytics instead of just the usual basketball fluff and bluster that everyone else does and when the NBA season ends, JJ will put himself in position to get interviewed for the many vacant head coaching positions that's going to be available.

As a basketball coach sure you can break the game down in details about what actions certain sets/match ups get, but the majority of people don’t care. Which is why for people who really know basketball the better way to break the game down for less knowledgeable people is to discuss what those actions led to. Example you can do a video on why they got the actions with Zion handling the ball, but the easier way for people to get it is to say hypothetically because Zion who is matched up with more Bigs is playing on the perimeter it allows them to get bigger defenders in space outside where he can take advantage of his speed and quickness in those match ups easier. (I haven’t watched them play so I can’t tell you what they have been getting from that shift, I just used that as a hypothetical scenario as an example) That break the game down in a detailed way about what is happening without using coach speak that most people don’t understand or care to understand. The way I look at it as a coach of junior high and high school is how can I explain to parents what happened that gave us our result without literally having to coach the parent on every aspect of what we’re doing. Now as for doc, I think he for a long time was overrated, he’s a good coach who for a long time was treated as a great coach. But I also disagree with JJ on his take that doc always makes excuses several times on the bill simmons podcast I heard him explain things he tried to do that looking back was the wrong move. I think Austin rivers had the perfect, for someone who supposedly didn’t take accountability he seems to always lose his job and take the blame. Doesn’t exactly add up. And the other point Austin rivers had that was fair was why didn’t JJ take the accountability all those years in LA to actually defend at a high level so that in crunch time they were able to have their floor spacer in the court…
