A lot of those kangaroo and koala attacks were provoked by the people’s behaviour. An animal that feels threatened will attack. How many of those koala attacks had a bunch of people hanging around their tree making a lot of noise? How many people were ignoring a kangaroo standing right up and giving them the “get lost” look? If a kangaroo sits right up and looks at you then you turn and quietly walk away. Spring officially started yesterday, on the 1st. If you want to avoid known magpie attack areas there is a website, Magpie Alert, that tells you where they are a problem. People will generally warn you if there is a swooper in the area anyway. A couple of things to remember while you’re here. Avoid driving on country roads around dawn and dusk, that’s when a lot of wildlife is most active, particularly kangaroos. Don’t leave your shoes lying outside overnight and if you forget make sure you check inside before putting them on. If you leave your car parked in the sun beware of metal pieces like the seat belt buckle when you get back in, they can get hot enough to brand you. Always wear sunscreen, it’s surprising how fast you can get sunburn. Enjoy your trip!

@@RoyHolder Hmm, I don't put much stock in the whole "Don't feed them that, it's bad for them" mantra we hear these days. I can only imagine that the people who say those things must lead incredibly healthy lifestyles themselves and never eat anything that's "unhealthy". LOL. I'm just saying. We feed the birds all sorts of table scraps, and they all seem pretty healthy, and we get lots of parrots, everything from cockatoos, crimson rossellas, rainbow lorikeets, corellas etc. As well as doves, wattle birds, magpies and crows.

People who let their dogs harass kangaroos absolutely piss me off. There is a mob of roos that live in a reserve in a south east Melbourne suburb, we live nearby and go walking there. Once we saw a guy deliberately letting his dog attack one of the male kangaroos, as soon as the guy saw us coming he quickly called the dog off and bolted. He is just lucky we didn't catch up to the guy.

I disagree, dingos can be very dangerous especially to children. More than one child has been killed and a toddler was dragged out of a campsite by the neck in 2019 and lucky the father woke up to his cries and manged to stop it. The issue has been created by people feeding dingos so people is now connected to free food.

The kangaroo jumping at the car was confused by the bright lights. Some just freeze in place and others panic. I've had a huge boomer just stand in front of my car, I saw it from a few hundred metres away and it stayed there frozen right up to me stopping a few metres from it. It didn't move until I honked the horn, it seemed to be hypnotised.

19:00 If you know a blue heeler "Bluey" They are fast and they don't stop. I had to lock our one in the shed just to do the mowing and whipper snipping. She would bite on to the mower wheels and drag it sideways. Bite onto the head of the Whipper snipper and stall it out. They are insane dogs. Great on the beach. You get a fish near the shore they run in and drag it up the beach. Not fear and no pain. They also keep seagulls off your bait.

I don't know if you are planning on visiting Brissy or the Gold Coast while you are over here, but if you do, I would highly recommend somewhere like the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Give you the opportunity to get up close and pet kangaroos, emus, koalas, and more. All are used to being around people and very docile. Also have the saltwater croc feeding shows and birds of prey shows etc which, even as an Aussie who has lived here for all of my 30 years on this planet, are awesome to watch. Plus the typical koala photo opportunity cuddling one of our native wonders. Hope you guys have an awesome time while here in our amazing country, whatever you happen to get up to while here.

We went to a wildlife park today with my toddler granddaughter. It’s a place where you can get up close and personal with the animals. I This was my first time seeing venomous snakes in Australia, despite living here all my life and spending many holidays on a family farm on the north coast. We stroked and held a koala, they have the softest fur, and hand-fed wallabies. Quokkas are seriously the cutest animals on earth, wombats are a close second. We had a wonderful conversation with a sulphur-crested cockatoo-they can learn to mimic you and often say “hello cocky”, which is what most people say to them. Any animal can become defensive if approached in a way it sees as an attack. The croc there was huge but at a very safe distance. This would be a great place to visit if you come to Sydney.

3:04 I think they are just curious. Cows would also come up and check out unusual behaviour. Collecting grass samples on a dairy farm. Just using sheers cutting the grass in a 1 square foot area they had a steel frame for. Then you feel the breath. A cow would be right over your shoulder looking at what you are doing. Don't move too quick if they hit you with their head they can knock you out and send you flying. Just talk quietly to them and they move away. I think I told you about the horse that liked my shirt when I was young. It bit on to my sleave and threw me around like a rag doll. If I didn't well there it is.

Played a round of golf one time when a roo picked up a ball off the fairway and put it in it's pouch, then hopped away with it.

Kangaroos are just stupid with cars at night. They never seem to figure out that they should jump out of the way. They just jump at you.

That happened to my daughter and myself ,we were in the morning he came straight towards us it’s like hitting a person . It smashed our windscreen broke the car Ariel and dented the front of the car roof, I think it had to have been the largest kangaroo I’ve ever seen.

Magpies rarely attack the people who live in the same area. They recognise individual people, and understand that those people do not attack them. Giving small amounts of food creates friendly birds. Dogs v kangaroos is a natural thing, town dogs will probably lose the encounter. In water the roo will always win, do not try to call the dog away, it will eventually learn not to attack the roo. Or drown.

The Kangaroo did not take on the car, he was blinded by the light. They try to jump over the blinding light so that is how many hit cars at night.

That kangaroo didn't need saving, they do that on purpose to try to drown anything they think is after them, if there was only one bloke the roo would over power him & try to push him down under the water.

5:34 They climb trees. I had a bird that was in the cab of a front end loader. I thought I can catch that bird and it doesn't have a beak that looks like it bites. I jumped in and shut the door. I grabbed that bird and it's claws went right through my fingers. If it climbs trees it can hurt.

When you drive up on kangaroos they are far more likely to jump towards the car than away.
