I don’t know much about Aussie rules, but my son and 2 of my daughters have been playing since they could walk. My biggest problem with AFL is that they seem to have forgotten about kicking between the sticks at their training sessions!

I question how footballers can miss a goal so easily when thats what they are paid to do!
@jarrydpearl14592 жыл бұрын
I played footy for 20 years, very rarely do you do goal kicking at training. Especially in juniors, they will teach your kids the fundamentals and kicking is one of them. If you can kick, you should be able to kick at goals pretty easily.

Funny how that particular No. 7 is possibly the most Zen footballer you'd ever meet. Percy Jones! He kicked the post instead of the ball 🤣What a character! He used to take the tram when the team would run around the outskirts of their home ground at training 🤣

I was at that game between North Melbourne and Hawthorn in the 1970s. It had been raining all day. North Melbourne was 1 point behind just before the final siren when Malcolm Blight was pushed as he kicked a point to level the game and was given a free kick and offered the option of accepting the point (which would have meant a draw) or take another kick to try to score a goal to win the game after the siren. Of course, he chose the latter. He was an excellent kick for goal and was not very far out and directly in front. I remember a bunch of us Hawthorn supporters banging on the advertising hoardings on the boundary for all our worth in an effort to put him off. It worked, of course.

I do like AFL and appreciate the skill and athleticism, but a crowded and noisy professional match live is exhausting! As a schoolgirl, a local match on Saturday was a good excuse to catch up with girlfriends and watch superfit boys! 😯 When the Swans started at Sydney that was exciting, a great team to support that wasn't playing Rugby! 👍 I do enjoy watching the Final! 😊

I love these. Freo have a couple that stick out in my memory. A player on camera tried to drink from a drink bottle that was upside down. We've had a couple of "miss the goal from 1m out"s. An ump marked the ball from a Freo player mid-game. Not really funny but have you heard of Siren-Gate? A game between Saints and Freo played down in Tassie. Freo were in front and the final siren went but the umps didn't hear it and didn't stop the game and Saints kicked 2 points to get the lead off of us. Speaking of Freo, I'm going to the elimination final this Saturday! So keen. The game is a sell out!

Yes, and it was a nice clean shoulder too. The late Andrew Symonds (who'd also famously dealt with a streaker on the cricket pitch) sent her a message saying that he'd like to buy her a beer so that they could compare notes.

Issue with red and yellow cards in the AFL is a lot of the reportable offences (e.g. dangerous tackles) tend to require slomo review cause the rules are kind of ambiguous. Cripps just got off on what should have stayed a 2 week sanction, but there's no way you could make a call on that live.
@RobReacts12 жыл бұрын
You have so many umpires, compared to footballs 3. You also have video assistants. No reason not to. Even for violent conduct
@jonodeluca41492 жыл бұрын
@@RobReacts1 I think only the three on field umpires can make calls for infringements. The boundary umpires and goal umpires only deal with whether the ball is out of bounds and scoring respectively. Not against it, but the AFL rules are a mess, interpretation changing from week to week, reports going to the tribunal and being overturned. The occurrence rate for major offences is pretty low, usually only 1 or 2 players a week across the league miss weeks.

Fuck no on the choreography Fuck yes on the chants We already have a little bit of the choreography, but on a very low level, and I think it’s good that way. We’re talking Charlie Cameron revving his Harley Davidson when he scores, Xavier Duursma firing his bow and arrow or the occasional indigenous player doing a bit of a war dance. But I don’t want players running in formation to the boundary and performing some bullshit routine where someone pretends to make a phone call with their hand and then takes a bow and then someone reels them back to the field with an invisible fishing rod. I prefer the genuine emotional reaction of just pure joy and excitement, with a small signature tag for the most charismatic players and cult figures. As for chants, yes please. Most teams honestly basically just have “team name, *clap clap clap*” Collingwood is the only club I know that has some semi good ones. (The long drawn out “Coooooooollingwooooood” when they’re playing well, and in recent years they’ve whipped out the “U.S.A! U.S.A!” chant when Mason Cox has a good game. Richmond’s “Yellow and Black” bit of the team song would be cool if fans had a way to sync up and shout it during the match. (Richmond fans did write a somewhat unsavoury song about Dustin Martin a couple years back, but it was mostly only sung by drunk lads stumbling to the pub after the game who sung it on account of the line “Oh Dustin Martin, I’ll let you fuck my wife” Also I assume that song was probably borrowed from EPL at some point anyway) In reality, I think Aussies perceive chants as very English and as such we kinda reject them. Probably a bit to do with the “Barmy Army” in the cricket. It’s also very hard to create a culture of doing it where one doesn’t really exist
@sorcy79au2 жыл бұрын
I think all teams have some sort of drawn out chant. Freo's is called the Death Knoll. "FREEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
