Wow Lex we seem to have a somewhat same mind on music. Johnny Cash’s “ Hurt” is deeeeeply touching as well as Disturb’s cover. You are probably referring specifically the version he did on Conan O’ Brien. I liked that song so much I included it one of my videos as background. If you like guitar it you ought to check out Pink Floyd- all their albums from the 70s are masterpieces. Greatest guitar work found on song “Comfortably Numb”. The song will give you chills

I've been a JRE fan since I was in rehab in 2015 and have started following 100s of comedians and podcast all through Joe. TFATK, Theo, YMH, JOCKO PODCAST and countless more that truly helped get past my addiction and has made me a curious, happy loving person with a great family. LEX, as a self decided JRE historian lol you have done absolutely amazing with your platform. Very candid like JRE but overall much more challenging intellectually just to follow along some times but that it is what elevates your platform above others. There's million of people like me who made A's all through my life and had a full ride for an engineering degree in at Purdue but I was a fuck up and partyed out TWICE. 15 years later I now run a grass cutting business but truly appreciate having my intelligence tested. btw next time you see a guy cutting grass he may be listening to a 3 hour conversation about astrophysics or like me just listening to the same 3 hour conversation repeatedly about string theory and understanding about 50% of it lol.

Rob's podcast is one of my favorites.. the amount of research he does on the subject/guest is incredible. Didn't know he was a musician and part of a band... anyone know where to find that? Regarding the 19m mark on change, I recommend interviewing Ken Ford of the IHMC, he suggest we often confound change with progress, and points out how someone from the 1820s waking up in the 1920s would have experienced a completely foreign world.. indoor plumbing/germ-theory, cities/skyscrapers, motors/cars/planes, radio/telephone, etc.. whereas the rate of progress between 1920s and 2020s may not be so stark.. computers/smartphones for sure, but more evolutionary changes rather than revolutionary. Regarding the 28m mark, I understand the 1918 Influenza virus (H1N1) is similar to the avian virus in that it attacks the lower part of the lungs, so for a bird flu to be a pandemic would require 1) a variant of the 16 Hemagglutinin genes that can infect human cells 2) a variant of the 9 Neuraminidase genes that can spread from human to human (either via air, saliva, feces, etc) Since the total number of combinations for HaNY is only 144.. is there a reason why it can't be predicted which combination is the one to look out for? Finally, Rob's advice on Talent Stacking is very similar to that of Bret Weinstein, Scott Adams and David Epstein BTW, I think Lex's interview with Bret is a must-listen-companion-episode to this one!

Brown noise is like far away traffic, white noise is TV static, pink noise is kind of like rain and TV static together. Brown noise is incredibly soothing to someone who either grew up in/near a city or even a busy highway, or used to get up early on a regular basis when early morning traffic was the predominant sound. I get flashbacks to doing my paper route at 16 at 4am or 5am on Sunday mornings.

This guy’s logical & grounded observations on GOF research & the likelihood & history of BSL leaks is on point. This mode of thinking is key to make sense of current events. However, his reductionist views on the nature of consciousness & his application of the infinite to a finite tool (the mind), exposes a self-imposed limitation on the potential to expand awareness beyond our current beliefs, which ultimately sets a trajectory of nihilism and annihilation. My two pennies. ❤️ Peace!

BTC is the future of crypto and the questions traders ask themselves now is if this is the right time to join? before jumping into conclusion I think u should take a look at things first. for the past few days the price of BTC has been fluctuating which means the market is currently unstable and u cant tell if it is going bearish or bullish. While others still continue to trade without the fear of making lose, other are being patient. it all depends on the pattern which you trade and also the source of your SIGNALS. I would say trading has been going smoothly for me, I started with 1.5 BTC and I've accumulated over 7.5 BTC in just three weeks, with the trading stratergy given to me by professional trader Jessica Allen. I find it fascinating that you say people with malevolent intentions tend to be worse at creating technology. It's something I completely agree with. A working hypothesis that I am investigating is how negative affective states limit creativity, from the individual to meta-societal level, especially in areas of technology. High levels of stress from more negative/traumatic/fear based states of mind tend to lead creativity in tighter loops/iterations. For instance, much of the technology developed during times of conflict, specifically for conflict, whether direct or indirect. The internet, for instance, began blossoming toward a much broader functionality after being made available to the public. Going from mostly military intelligence communication to a hub of communication for everything from academia, to finance and business, to enertainment, and in a full circle kind of manner, an entire virtual space where idea sharing can lead to more technologies being developed that incorporate the virtual space where the ideas were birthed and explored. This is just one of the many examples of how creativity especially in technology, is limited, even if just in scope of possibilities perceived, by "negative" affective states, intentions/or purposes in the creation process. Inspiration is a lighter energy that occurs more when given the space and more positive attitudes, and our ability to perceive and connect ideas and possibilities increases when our mindset is less stressed, consciously of subconsciously.

Hi Lex, Huge longtime fan. Can/Are you considering anyone in expertise, that can come on and discuss the infrastructure bill that we are trying to get through congress in the US. It would be huge if you can get some heads from both sides of the Aisle. It is of my personal hope, that we can utilize such a bill to revitalize our infrastructures and federal civil policy in such a way that might play out such as the "new deal" did in the 30's. I'm by no means an expert on any of the topics I think are pertinent to this discussion, but I think this bill is more important then we realize and I think it should be in the forethought of our minds as people of the country and the world.

Rob Reid, talking about writing and editing.… Would you say those hours of editing are mostly after the bulk of your first draft is completed? I’m guessing 95% then. Would you give your guess for percentage for each of “throughout” and “after first draft”? Thanks in advance.

Re "Backing up human consciousness by colonizing space" There is at least one Star Trek Next Generation episode (probably more), where Picard encounters an alien civilization long dead, but the history of which is backed up by the technology they left behind traveling through space. There are also episodes in Star Trek where a very technologically advanced civilization overcame the theory of the great "filter" explanation as to why we see no evidence of aliens in the cosmos. They became an ostensibly simple agrarian society-and yet were still able to use its advanced technology to overpower the Enterprise. Much of what I see discussed on Lex's channel has already been anticipated for many decades on the various Star Trek TV series.

Contagions are synonymous within language and ideas, as they are in rudimentary biology. What we need to strike is a balance of ideas and practical application. Ideas spread like a virus. Application is the map of what we know works. Skepticism should be based in a simple refractory process such as Entropy and occam's razor. Simplicity breeds efficiency and efficiency breeds practical application. Ideas are important. However just like in our bodies we have responses to combat viruses and sickness we as a society need to develop an auto immune response to ideas that don't serve us. Education is the key. Even more so is the responsibility of purveying such knowledge we impart a respect of wisdom. Time makes fools of us all.

Actually they began covering up a possible lab leak early in the pandemic. The virus looked like it could have escaped from research at the Wuhan lab. But then the worry at the WHO was to keep China on board to fight the pandemic, which they did impeccably. And a public panic needed to be avoided as the experts underestimated how well people would cope. But most importantly, virologists were needed more than ever to fight the pandemic. They couldn't risk the public outrage about the risks taken in the sector. So a lab leak was a big no no.
