He was a bro until his crazy father got in his head. Theon always had some of that Ironborn machismo in him, but at least Ned was showing him another way. Biggest mistake was allowing Theon to individually interact with his old family. Balon(Theon’s father) and his sister goaded him into engaging in foolishness and off we go!

She’s familiar with Mance converting to Wildling and becoming their informal ‘king’ of the Wildlings, hence he would be interested in a Stark, as a symbol of power in the North. Then Benjin Stark, the First Ranger, is a bane to the Wildlings. He’s killed many of them during his time as a member of the Nights Watch, even more of a reason he’d be valuable. There was so much more logic in this scene in the books. No one has directly attacked Rob, but the Grey Wind killed one of wildlings, and bit Osha in leg so that she surrends and Rob actually dropped sword and tried to deal with them when one took Bran. The wildling was killed by arrow in the same way, but Rob was totally anxious about it cause it was too risky as he could miss and Bran died. The series is great(at least first 5 seasons), but the small details make scene picture so much better, I think it wouldn’t even take much screen time to present this scene properly

Its the moment and type of moment he used to fuel his actions at Winterfell and remind him he was a ward of the Starks, but never a Stark. Robb didnt thank him, or celebrate him. He chastized him. It doesnt justify it, but to Theon its how he justified acting on his fathers orders and trying to win his old family back because he was never fully welcomed or let himself be welcomed into the Stark family.
