@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 So? They were making Rob the top guy. Let him win clean. Even in their rematch on Raw, he STILL didn’t win clean. What kind of champion does that make you if you don’t beat your opponent legit ever?
@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros92662 жыл бұрын
@@sirnetflix7162 Ric Flair is the record holder of most world championships won in a career and most of those were defended multiple times exclusively via cheating even when he was top guy. Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels -even when they were faces- many times were only able to defeat strong opponents (Diesel, Taker, etc) via third party interferences or stuff like that. Having a face champ that doesn't always win clean was not new for WWE in 2006. Cena was supposed to be almost unbeatable like Hulk Hogan, so they have to do the next best thing to put RVD over John there. In the end it was clear they were pushing Rob there, but Cena still remained top guy over him. Maybe had Rob not gotten into trouble weeks later, he might have ended up collecting clean victories over Cena eventually.

Shinji Nakamuru gonna be a good one when he finally hangs it up. One of the best entrances and theme music of all time. I love how it's like he's a rock star but it's not cheesy. No wonder he smokes cigs before matches he puts %100 into his entrance and matches. His feud with Styles on Japan was great. Idk...how WWE messed it up in the States. Although they've been great at screwing feuds for several years...S.M.H.

Are you talking about Shinsuke? Yep, his persona in Japan was a mixture of crazy yakuza and rockstar abd it worked wonders for him. He is one of the few that would need to be on NXT or anywhere else outised WWE mainstream shows to get over. His strong style got inmensely watered down there.

I was surprised he didn't mention the stuff about like, how wrestling kinda advanced. In 97 he was the hot new thing, drastically different from nearly anything else from WWE at the point bar the light heavyweight division which I'm not even sure we fully around at that point. Lol the commentators couldn't and probably didn't know how to vocalize his moveset. Then in his last match, his style of high flying is basically a dime a dozen, Seth with his slight power advantage and version of high flying of his own was able to put away the aged relic. Lol I'm not dissing him, just a thought I noticed with the comparison between his first and last match.

@sirnetflix71623 жыл бұрын
The beginning of the end for RVD was when he lost against HHH for the heavyweight title. Had he won, his stardom would have skyrocketed. I will die on the hill that RVD should have won against HHH, John Cena (clean), arguably the WWF title with Austin and Angle, against Del Rio, and the US title in his final run. He could have been as big as guys like Shawn Michaels were, but WWE wouldn't give it over petty fucking politics. What a shame.
@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros92663 жыл бұрын
Well, anybody would be huge if they won ALL their important matches. I agree he should have won against HHH (but then again, so should have a ton of other wrestlers and then RVD would not have had the opportunity to dethrone the heel star HHH), but the rest of outcomes are OK with me. For pro-wrestling purists RVD was better than Cena, but WWE caters to kids and casuals, and patriotic soldier Vanilla Ice was that generation's Hulk Hogan. No way for RVD to beat that whole thing in terms of marketing. After that, Del Rio never clicked as a top face in WWE but he was contractually protected enough to win most of his matches. Del Rio is actually a very talented all-around performer, maybe had he worked his promo game on his own with better english he could have gotten as big as his potential suggested, but WWE's poor booking buried him and everybody that was sacrificed for him. He was a latino version of Roman Reigns but with less appeal for the Indians, kids and chicks, hence why they got rid of him once his contract expired.
@sirnetflix71623 жыл бұрын
@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 I disagree, RVD could have been plenty marketable for his time, they weren’t PG in his prime and for those times people were buying his merch all the time. Even when he returned in 2013, the cheers he was receiving was blowing the roof off the building. A world title win would have kept that momentum going, but they refused to let him win the belt off Del Rio. I’m a hispanic viewer, and I didn’t give two shits about Del Rio and how he represented our spanish cultures, whether he won all the time or not. Even if they wanted to protect Del Rio, why not have RVD win the title in the first bout and then have Del Rio win it back later? I’ve seen kids who said they didn’t know who RVD was from before but loved him all the same.
@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros92663 жыл бұрын
@@sirnetflix7162 mighta, coulda, shoulda. That's my point. Cap America/Vanilla Ice combo was a surefire hit tested time and again (Hulk Hogan f.i.), so Vince would not jeopardize it to try to get RVD over. Yep, RVD could have eventually outsold Cena, but he could have not just as well. Same reason why Vince and HHH buried Punk and try to bury Bryan: they wanted a tested formula, they feared what "might" happen otherwise. Hence, now we have that p.o.s. Reigns.
@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros92663 жыл бұрын
@@sirnetflix7162 I'm also hispanic, and I too disliked his top face run. It was rushed and inorganic, he stopped being the mexican Ted DiBiase and suddenly he transformed into Capitán México while people weren't really sold on him....so that's why I compare him with Roman Reigns. Alberto was pushed down our throats and was not as cool as when he was a heel, and his big downside compared with Roman is that chicks, kids and indians weren't that much into him, unlike Roman's case. Vince always misinterpreted Rey Mysterio's appeal: he thought it was mostly kids and latinos, when in fact it was kids from all ethnicities and wrestling fans all over the world. Alberto was pushed as Capitán México and even mexicans were turned off because he was just a chicano Cena, a supposedly golden boy of Vince, unlike true idols like charismatic underdogs Rey or Eddie. Btw, I know Alberto actually has tons of charisma and can manage a mean mic, but his talents for whatever reason weren't really displayed in WWE, so he never became the draw they wanted him to be.
@sirnetflix71623 жыл бұрын
@@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 Hard agree, RVD definitely fits in the Punk/Bryan demographic, but unfortunately RVD wasn’t at the luxury of having internet fans rallying for a push during his best years while the other two did.
