I think it really says something about Robben Ford when there are over 2.7 million views on an 8 minute live jazz song. He's not exactly a household name to the masses but those who know who he is respect him immensely.

So amazing. The passing of Alexander Dumble brought me there. Haven't watched him play in a long while. Sometimes you forget when it's not overhyped. He should be overhyped tho. What a fat sound with that tele!

Music helps us all in so many ways. I've loved Robben since Talk to Your Daughter and I've never heard him play better than this. I had a massive emotional connection with this and I was sobbing with joy by the end; I guess he means even more to me than I thought!
@samgibson684 Жыл бұрын
He's been a comfort following the ascension of Jeff Beck..... Check out the Eric Clapton tribute to Jeff Beck..... Instant emotional overload
@jakelannetti31282 жыл бұрын
The notes he doesn’t play are every bit as important as the ones he does, incredible feel, and even the longest stretches of solo have context and movement, amazing player.
@agtronic9 жыл бұрын
What I love the most about Robben Ford is how he plays so soft and so easy for a long time and makes you wait for the jazzy bits you know he's so good at. As a guitarist I find he shows so much restraint. He could wow everyone with his music vocabulary but takes it easy and keeps it simple, using really basic scales... then slowly he introduces fancier and fancier stuff. Musicianship at its finest in my opinion.

@Jerry Vdm Just so discouraging of a comment to those who come with an open heart to share with one another...From an outsider it could look as though you have a jealousy issue...? One makes themselves look attention seeking when making such negative comments...I only mean this as positive input for you to consider....Be happy for others , even if you feel you missed out on something in this lifetime...You then will have moments of sincere happiness and joy.Envy is an ugly thing to harbor...
@alexgramm51705 жыл бұрын
Alot of people play the guitar , players appreciating players is great. However believe it or not there are many people who know nothing about it. They cant tell what someones hand position is etc. So I think mr. Jerry read that wrong, man. When I play am I just flailing along or trying to get down to something that is real? I used to play out.....These days I'm pretty happy when I vamp from i to iv and feel it and enjoy it. Most times when other folks might hear and see it, they go WOW! Quite frankly I never find it boring. Tnx ....Terri...I'm happy I can play the guitar... I believe Mr. Ford would agree....

"You will NEVER, EVER sound exactly like Robben Ford, none of us will." - Guthrie Govan "Robben Ford figured out how to play blues and jazz at the same time without alienating either side. His playing reminds me of a skateboarder on the edge of a pipe -- he'll just hang on a note." - John Mayer

I am surprised to see Govan say that, as I just recently found out about him as well. He's just amazingly impressive. And then Mayer, love his trio sound and soloing. Definitely listened to Continuum a bunch too. Like these quotes. Where are they from?

Here's some more guitarist you would want to check out - Peter Green (Early Fleetwood) and the John mayall stuff as well. Replaced Clapton in that. They liked Peter better. BB King said he is the only guitarist who could really give him chills. - Paul Kossoff (Free) - Eddie Hazel (Funkadelic) - From the bottom of the my soul, from his solo album, is one the best phrased solos i ever heard. Maggot brain of course as well. Mekka for many in feel. Just check him out. - Plini as well. Young Australian dude. Instrumental soundscape, progressive stuff. He is extremely talented and musical. - John Scofield - Philip Sayce - Gary Clark Jr. - Julian Lage - Dorian Sorriaux (Blues Pills) -Tim Christensen (Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - Danish Dude) Fantastic - David Maxim Micic - Check living room and you'll get it. - Buckethead - The dude's made way over 300 albums. A lot of shred that is hard to get, but he has music from every genre, and he's absolutely amazing, if you give yourself time to search a little of his music. Aaron Marshall ( Intervals) - Instrumental dope ass shit - Mother's cake. dope ass shit band from Austria I think. Check em out. - David Gilmour of course - Pink floyd - Prince should get a shout out as well. Here's some inspiration to look into :) Have a good guitar journey

Years ago, I had an opportunity to sit in studio with Robben for about 8 hours. In that period of time, though he might have used similar notes, each idea was uniquely placed and uniquely phrased. At the end of the session I asked him, "You didn't repeat the same idea twice in 8 hours. How do you do that?" He replied, "The short answer is when you grow up in the Sacramento area (Ukiah) your are either a car-guy or you're something else. I chose to be something else. So each day when I came home from school all I did was listen to and learn vocabulary from all of the greats." (which he then listed) We learn from emulating what others have done. We then reinterpret what we learn and put it in our own voice. Put a little bit of theory behind all of that vocabulary so you know how to apply what you know in different ways, and there ya go.

Hi All ..... Robin plays a 1960 Vintage Fender Tele & typically thru a Dumble amp .... his tone is fantastic & he plays other guitars as well that do have humbuckers (an Epiphone Casino & the Baker ) ... he could play a plastic guitar & make it sound good.... he is beyond well versed in speaking to people in musical ways ... whether he is playing Rhythm or Lead or both he is the quintessential player ... no overplaying, support for the other musicians & an awesome guitar vocabulary... his knowledge base is amazing ... & he has played with an amazing amount of people aside from a good solo career .... I was fortunate 2 study with him when I was much younger & still 2 this day I am staying current with what he is teaching ... he gets it & would like nothing better than 2 pass that info on 2 anyone willing 2 listen & learn .... that is as it should b for all of us muso's & hopefully he'll b doing it for a long time 2 come ... playing that awesome sounding tele (ok, I have 1 also & it sings, so I am a bit prejudiced by that fact ;-) )or his Casino or Baker ... his call on the that & I know I'm listening no matter what axe he is swinging ... so keep blurring that Line between Jazz & Blues,and creating the well rounded player who comps & solo's with the song & artists in mind, Robben ... we r listening ..
