I had the pleasure of meeting Robben after one of his shows in Chicago in the early 2000's. I was a full time private jazz/rock guitar instructor in Chicago at that time. I talked to Robben for over an hour as he shot a game of pool. He was so humble and nice. At one point he looked around the club and asked me: "Where are all the ladies"?

Toss Panos, Travis Carlton = killer groove. Robben always pairs great players. The version of Indianola @10:09 rivals the studio cut. The track Nothing to Nobody @22:00 is a deep 10 minute groove with a Travis Carlton Bass solo. Absolutely superb, one of the best modern trio live performances for mine.

LONG ago, I saw the Charles Ford Band open for Albert King (or maybe Freddie King) at the Keystone Korner in north beach San Francisco. "The Charles Ford Band, three brothers and a friend from Ukiah, California with extraordinary enthusiasm and energy, played gritty and accomplished urban blues at bars and clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area." "Formed in 1971 and existed for about a year. The band was named after Charles Ford, father of the brothers Robben, Patrick, and Mark." There was a min. drink requirement to stay and I couldn't buy alcohol at the time. That is how I "met" Robben Ford.

Fabulous. Had a great time watching this video.
@JeanMichelWouters6 жыл бұрын
@serafinihenry28066 жыл бұрын
@JeanMichelWouters6 жыл бұрын
@ChrisArlesMusic6 жыл бұрын

Robben-> Dumble is one of my fave guitar tones from any electric guitarist. Absolutely enjoying the Robben->(with zendrive, sometimes) Fender combo tones here. Sounds just like Robben & if I was hearing audio only and wasn’t told it wasn’t the Dumble, probably wouldn’t have known 🤷♂️. Just goes to show :-) Maybe different live in the room, idk. Over KZbin? Love it. I’ve seen videos of him playing thru a Dumble in Europe and also Fenders, so guess it depends on what the tour circumstance was that year. I thought he used to store a Dumble in Europe (or Japan?). Could be misremembering…or maybe that one’s been sold (a black one I think)…just guessin.. Many Robben fans love him playing the Tele. I’m usually lukewarm about that guitar as it sometimes seems too bright/thin compared to the always fat Gibson/humbucker tones he gets, that I love. Not here. Both guitars sound righteous. Imho.
