I hate that they didn't release this on a CD or DVD. What a great concert it is. Martin Scales on the backing guitar is very good allowing Robben to roam freely on his fretboard. That Tele has seen better days but he gets some more great tone out of it

Robben comes across well in this format. IMHO, his playing has always been orchestral due to his horn playing ability. I really like this format, wish this was available to purchase. The other guitarist is very good as well. He appears to be having a great time. Can you imagine, jamming with Robben in this format? COOL! That lick at 3:38...wow.

So very funky. And that sax player was just laying out the blues. Amazing band and arrangement.

Hm. I don't know, I am missing the "punch" in the performance, it sounds too "flat", "by the numbers" to me. But it seems to be a trend, because I notice that with a lot of contemporary Big Band recordings. Compare this performance with the german easy listening recordings from the late 1960s, early 1970s (for example Orchester Charlie Steinmann, Orchester Heinz Hötter, Orchester Heinz Kiessling, Orchester Helmuth Brandenburg, Orchester Robert Opratko) which were much more lively and swinging. Maybe modern conductors should go back to these old recordings and try to rediscover the quality of these performances.

Interesting point of view. I think you are right :-)

Of course you're right but this is about some musicians getting together on short notice and just playing out, and that's the beauty of it. Robin has never been a big band leader but he was able to bring these guys out and that's all he wanted to do and it rocked

Robben that is.

Hmm, having listened to big band since the 60's, I like them all. This stands on it's own merit. There is a major blues influence due to the guest guitarist.
