I'm no outspoken Robbie Savage fan, but for JT to call what he achieved "playing at a really bad level" is incredibly disrespectful. Not just to Savage, but to the hundreds of professionals currently giving their all in the lower leagues, and to the thousands of aspiring players trying to work their way up. That comment just makes me dislike Terry.

Rio makes a point of when things become personal and it was highlighted that Terry's comments where just that. Yet Terry said he felt he had been dug out out a few times which shows he felt that things said had been personal too. Whether or not that was Savages intention, the comment by Terry reflects that Savage had indeed hurt Terry on an emotional level.

I'm no fan of Savage, but the bottom line is he played in the Prem for a long time and got 40 odd caps for Wales, so he can't be a bad player. Robbie Savage is right; everyone is entitled to an opinion, regardless of their ability. John Terry recently described Jose Mourinho as "the very best I have ever worked with", yet Mourinho hardly had a glittering career as a footballer. So by Terry's logic surely he would ignore any feedback Mourinho ever game him as immaterial? Alan Shearer, one of the greatest players the UK has ever produced, had one short stint as manager which ended in relegation. Thierry Henry had an incredible career in which he achieved a lot, but has been slated as a pundit for his lack of insight. My point is one's ability as a footballer does not have a defining influence on the validity of their opinion on the game, nor should it. The laughter from the journalists in the room, most of them failed footballers themselves, is quite bizarre when you consider Terry is basically saying he doesn't respect their opinion either.

the fact BT gave Savage a job in the first place is a complete joke, he doesn't make good points as a pundit and is all over the place as a commentator. BT will never surpass SkySports unless more pundits like Rio are signed up

Not a direct comparison to Savage but plenty of people who go on to become top managers and coaches were not great footballers, played at a mediocre level, not in a top league etc or retired early due to injury / not making it. Terry would listen to his gaffer and respect their opinion regardless of their playing career, trophies or achievements I guess! (His old boss Mourinho played less than 100 professional matches)

IMO 😜 John Terry is out of line saying Robbie "had no career", if he didn't agree with Robbie's assessment then just state that fact! Robbie Savage is paid to give his view on the telly/radio, his job now retired. John Terry needs to grow up & not tarnish what has been a very successful career thus far. I used to play Sunday league, hope my voicing my opinion is ok! 😉

Savage is a mug with a huge ego most of the time, but he was spot on here. He’s entitled to an opinion, more than most in the media. For once he handled this with a small amount of class

I don't think JT is saying that savage can't give an opinion. He can, only JT won't listen to him, and I think he is right to say so. Players can't listen to every opinion made about them, they should only take in their managers and people they trust.

Robbie Savage didn't have a career? That's basically like saying that Paul McGrath didn't have a career. Savage played in the premier league and played for his national team. So he didn't have a career, because he didn't win the league, european cups or the world cup? Matt Le Tissier won less that Savage. If Le Tissier had a word about Terry's performance, his opinions wouldn't be taken on board by Terry, because Le Tissier stayed at Soton all his career? What about a player who has had a long stint in the lower leagues? Their opinions aren't valid either? Terry is just a despicable human being. But like Savage said, I was also astonished to hear the loud laughter of the journalists. If I was a journalist in that room, you'd just see me with the most disappointed look on my face, after hearing Terry say what he did. How many journalists in that room have had distinguished football careers to find what he said funny? Really embarrassing.

I don’t care about anything that John Terry says. Robbie played for my club and was immense. He’s also a selfless player, who worked for everyone around him, and not himself. We had much better technical players at Blackburn, at the time, but that mid-2000s era Blackburn team belonged to Robbie.

The problem isn't with Robbie Savage or opinions, the problems is the media who allow anybody to be on a panel. Robbie Savage should never have been considered to be a TV media panellist purely for the fact that he was an average player.

I've really warmed to Robbie since I started listening to the Fred Sav Syed podcast a while back and I think it's ridiculous that Terry would say he's had no career, Robbie knows he didn't reach the top level but he has hit heights in his career any of us would dream of so it's clear that Terry can't take criticism and he's as much of an idiot that everyone thinks he is, Everyone says Terry is a legend but when he tries to throw shade at people like that for an honest opinion it shows how little class he has
