Disc Golf is a tricky sport to find consistently good performance in. When we're new the game it feels like somedays we just have it and others we're complete strangers to our throwing arm. Yet when we watch the professionals play they walk up to the smallest of gaps and longest of putts with complete confidence. In today's video I want to go over one thing I believe can help you with that consistent performance. If we can find consistency in our game it becomes even easier to move that needle of good performance higher faster! What's the tip?? You'll have to watch to find out!!

My routines start the night before the tournament. I will take all my discs out of the bag and wash them. If I'm out of town, I'll use the bathtub in the hotel room. Something about a freshly washed disc, especially my putters, feels better in the hand.

I heard about a study of a bunch of players that worked out that 8 seconds was the best setup time for putting, any less or more gave worse results. So I try to do my setup on the count of 8. It works for me. I also synchronize my breathing, so I always throw on the exhale.

Thank you for showing people what a short simple routine looks like. There was this one guy on card in a tournament we played in and it was 98 degrees outside and he did the tour pro on the tee pad without a disc in his hand then would go to his bag and do it again. It was brutal...easily 1 minute + on the box. He was newer to disc golf and finally had to say something to him about it. This video is a must watch for beginners and a great reminder for us vets especially for tournament play to keep things moving. I find pace of play also promotes better play.

From being a semi decent ball golfer, the act of undoing my glove after a shot and redoing it (the velcro strap) before a shot. It gave me the moment of glove strapped in, it's game time and loose can relax. For disc golf when I set my bag down. Give the chalk bag a squeeze before setting a mini!

you nailed it Robbie! I really like at the end where you talked about how the second man suffers from not going through the routine... such a great example of how the routine helps center your throws. I t tend o rush things and have more of a no routine, routine. But then I realized how much more successful I have become with my putting by just taking that extra beat and mentally and sometimes verbally telling myself to focus. The routine doesn't have to be elaborate it just has to get you centered for your maximum potential.

Thanks. I had a routine for real golf, but didn’t connect to do the same for all of my throws in disc. Also, don’t listen to the trolls on your video format. You are the content creator and get to decide the flow and style of your videos. Always will be complainers, but I love the way you provide more context as you explain a concept. It helps it stick better for me.

I just played in the Carolina Clash this last weekend and had a rough first round (as it was my first tournament this year). The last couple months I've made a point to both have and simplify my routine (especially on the teebox). It ended up being a really nice grounding element and I had some really great shots and putts the last two days. Totally agree with the video.

That was the video I needed. I do a quick routine on the Putting green. Step up, put down the mini, put the disc right in front of it, place my right foot at the right angle, take the disc, kind of make a paint the pole movement. Getting ready. Then I release the disc wipe my fingers on the leg. Grab it again and 1 2 count down 1 count to release the disc. Sometimes I think it's silly and surprice I miss the putt. From now on I'll keep your words in my ear. Do the routine, everytime. Thanks brother. I have to find one to the tee pad as well. Because I'm mixing up all your example throwers. Big smiley.

Great insight into your mind and process! No real routine off the tee. Other than looking and visualizing the line I want to go for, and setting the initial disc angle I want to have. Footwork and timing changes, even the reach-out does. I should look into it. For putting I let my thoughts go for wild rides. Let them flow. What ever pops up, go with it. When stance is done and I am ready to throw I look for the aiming point and clear my mind for total silence - then throw. I try the best I can to avoid what I call superstition (feel free to disagree), so I do not like to move in a set way, or do this x times before doing something else. I get that it works for some, but it is not for me personally.

In my experience a routine is great... until it's not. When things aren't clicking my routine can feel like a self-created jail, especially on the green. Going through the entire process just to doink a putt is extremely frustrating. There's something to be said for busting out of your routine and just cashing a putt when your routine is working against you.
@JTygerAU
@JTygerAU 6 күн бұрын
Totally agree on this. On putts….sometimes I know I’m about to overthink it - I intuitively switch to make one quick stroke to make sure my body is aligned and fire. I think you have to what is your mental state and play within that.

@@killakalani6759 I definitely thought about this when making this video, and probably should have included my thoughts. While I do agree with that, I think that most “no routines” are exactly that routines. Thus when folks think I don’t need to establish a consistent routine because I just don’t do anything fancy, they are leaving the door wide open for little variances in their patterns and swing.
