Had the pleasure of briefly speaking with Brendan one night at a book launch in Monaghan (not his). Lovely man to speak too, ordinary man in extraordinary times. No mater what side of a divide someone comes from, people like Brendan’s voices need heard, in order to stop the perception that these men where terrorists etc. Like many young men/women, he was an ordinary man with his whole life in front of him, he could have led a nice quiet life but circumstances thrust him into a different world, no mater how tough it may be! I would rather hear honest factual accounts than revisionist bullshit, if we dont hear these peoples stories , they will be buried and rewritten by others with their own political agenda and narratives.

1916= the war of 'independence', partition, the civil war, rural poverty and the then the troubles and the countless lives cut short as a result of them. No 1916 would have equalled a united Ireland with its own devolved parliament in Dublin and none of the above. Now, I will 'go back to sleep'.
