Jonathan Trigg’s book “Death In The Fields” examines, in great detail, the infamous East-Tyrone IRA and how this rural group complied some of the republican’s biggest wins and conversely, their most devastating losses.
We examine the early days of the unit and how they were formed, the autonomy they enjoyed, the Jim Lynagh “A-Team” era and their deadly attacks, the Loughall ambush & how it effected the brigade plus the post-Loughall activities of the East Tyrone IRA including coming under attack from the Mid-Ulster UVF.
Jonathan is an ex-British soldier who himself was posted to East Tyrone in the early 90s and will be authoring more books on the subject of “the troubles”.
PLEASE EMAIL ANY & ALL SUGGESTIONS FOR GUESTS & EPISODE TOPICS (if you're reading this and were involved in paramilitary activity please give me a shout if you would like to tell your story, even anonymously to thegoodlistenerpodcast@gmail.com)

God John this is the tip top episode that you have published to date. I was very impressed by Jons factual story as I have good friends in Tyrone who have regaled me with many stories which Jon have indeed colobrated. Had to smile when he was comparing the Tyrone boys with our own West Cork Brigade. I knew Tom Kelleher who was a famous member of Barry's unit & he stated when asked about the difference between his IRA & The Provisional's was ''SEMTEX''.

He is virtue signalling to an Irish audience , Ira murders are ‘killings’ , loyalist murders are ‘disgusting murders’ , He seems to portray this gang as virtuous altar boys . I forget the name, but a senior Ira man from cork , who was seconded to Tyrone, wrote that they were more interested in killing Protestant farmers than fighting the British army , I don’t think I’ll be buying the book.
