Hey, everyone, thanks for watching--do you have any Jumping Flash memories? I had the first two games growing up and loved them, they were unlike anything else I had at that time, especially because my PS1 was basically the RPG machine for me. Anyway, this video has been a long time coming. No, really, I was set to do a video on Robbit Mon Dieu way back in 2014, had hours of Jumping Flash 1, 2 and Robbit Mon Dieu gameplay recorded, had some graphics/assets made, was working on a script...and I just dropped it. I don't even remember why. Well, 11 years later and at least I can say I made the video. Apologies if my voice sounds weird (-er than usual) in a few parts, I was dealing with a stuffy nose that just would/will not go away. Probably time to finally head to a clinic.

It's a great feeling when you finish a project you started years ago, isn't it? Unfortunately, I don't have any memories related with Jumping Flash, I maybe got my first PS1 around '97. For some reason it wasn't that popular in my specific PAL region, so I never heard about the series until a decade ago! In a sense I missed the boat, but it looks like a very charming/appealing/unique early PS1 game, so once I find the time I'll be trying it out. I remember Hardcore Gamefan didn't like the third game much, which is probably why it's not as well known. I'll be watching this video a few minutes from now, during dinner. I'm expecting a good time as always. You undersell yourself, but you really shouldn't. Your videos are great and I rewatch them frequently because of that. Cheers!

I used to have a demo disc with a neat demo of JF in it as a kid. The bgm of one of those stages stuck in my head for ages. 20+ years later I decided to finally get the full game and beat it as an adult. Good stuff.

I've played both Jumping Flash 1 and 2 growing up, but I never got around playing Mon Dieu due to being more story focused/heavy with dialogue, and well, I don't know japanese, lol. Perhaps if a fan translation pops up one day. Also, shout out to all JF fans, I recently found out Robbit was modded into Doom, lol, complete with weapons and 3d model, plus the game's enemies replacing the Doom demons. From what I've seen, it's really cool and well done, you can even triple jump too, ahah.

I've never been able to handle Jumping Flash's camera. It feels like one of those things that'd put me down for the day because of how wonky it is, but I love the concept. Seems like Robbit Mon J- Dieu is effectively the same thing, but those visuals are incredibly charming.

I think the Jumping Flash games are some of my favorite games on the Ps1. They are some of the most unique games to ever exist. I wish there were more games in this franchise. I remember telling a friend about Jumping Flash and he didn't believe me that it was a real game. He exploded when he found out it was a real game by me showing him the copy that I have of the first game.

Awesome stuff! This is the Jumping Flash game we never got- and sadly even trying to get PAL copies of the originals can be a lil pricey, especially the second game! :) Thank you for doing a vid on this, was very curious and its wonderful to hear a familiar and friendly voice talking about games when it can be a lil anxiety inducing to look up new content.. is that a weird thing? Hmm..

Good luck finding those PAL Jumping Flash games--I'm happy I own the NA copies, but they're at my family home in the States at the moment. I think my old copy of JF 2 has the manual cover, but all the pages are missing (must have been a rental store purchase). I understand the anxiety, I get it too! Even just checking messages online can be a bit daunting.

Great video! Uh stupid question but is the original Robbit an actual robot bunny or does he also have a little guy inside him piloting him, like the one in this game? 🤔
@importgamingftw
@importgamingftw 2 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for the donation! I was always under the impression that the Robbit was an autonomous robot, and it wasn't until I played Robbit Mon Dieu years back that I, too, questioned that. I think that it's another pilot (supposed to be you, the player), and probably works something like Ghost in the Shell where the fuchikomas/tachikomas where the vehicles have personalities (except Robbit doesn't speak). I also think that it's a pilot because of the dashboard, which also includes your dangling AI buddy as if it was decoration hanging from the rear view mirror.

I attempted to review this game a few months back and was rather unimpressed. I made sure to revisit the first 2 games and found that they actually hold up well enough but something about the missions in this game didn't quite do it for it for me. Clearly, it's a graphical upgrade to the previous entries and the controls feel ever so slightly tighter, but I can see why this wasn't brought over. As you mentioned I'd love to see this series come back. I'd kill to see what the Astrobot team could do with Jumping Flash. Doesn't have to be a big game but give me a quick 4 to 5 hour budget title akin to Astro's Playroom. I'd love that!
@importgamingftw
@importgamingftw 2 күн бұрын
I think it starts off a bit slow--missions are kind of simple, and there are too many jumping & ring diving ones early on, but it eventually gets pretty addicting and engaging, especially since you come to know the characters better. The best missions I played, however, were after beating the final boss.

I do have fond memories of the first, but don't think I ever got around to the sequel, much less this third JP-only sequel. bizarre there's no strafing, I mean looking it up it said it does support the analog controller, so the lack of strafing is weird, indeed. we're definitely way overdue for a sequel, but I suppose that could be said about many PSX-era Sony titles.
@importgamingftw

Definitely one of many Sony IPs that needs some kind of proper update. I'm hoping the Astro Bot success triggers something like a renaissance of 1st/2nd party PS1 games that aren't trendy and modern...but I have no faith in Sony. You know, I'm so wired to using the d-pad for Jumping Flash that I didn't even test out analog movement when I recorded my gameplay for this video!
@321cheeseman
@321cheeseman 2 күн бұрын
For whatever it's worth, when you're in the air you move laterally rather than turning, and your first jump is a relatively small hop that doesn't point the camera downward, so you can sort of use single jumps to strafe.
@rayphoenix7296
@rayphoenix7296 2 күн бұрын
@@importgamingftw That describes how I view the analog control in the Wipeout games. I got accustomed to using the d pad to play the first two Wipeouts so when I play Wipeout 3, I pretty much always use the d pad even though that game fully supports the analog controller. I am also like that with the later Wipeout games too.

I love Jumping Flash. Just feels good to play, and is a nice, fun experience. I cannot believe Sony didn't resurrect the IP for at least ONE PSVR title - that would've been _wild,_ but with Jim Ryan in charge, their whole "f**k Japanese games and legacy IP" attitude was in full swing so they could focus on live service and Naughty Dog-style "narrative driven" AAA blockbusters, ugh. Now that Hideaki Nishino is President, I hope things will change for the better but I'm not holding my breath. I do miss when Sony's Japanese studios were allowed to just be weird and fun and memorable and colorful and pump out games like this or Hermie Hopperhead or Ape Escape.
