Thank you very much Rob for all your guidance. I start my backyear aquaponics 2 years ago and I learnt a lot from your videos. What I learnt was not just aquaponics but also gardening and maintaining the health of the plants. To the newbies who want to start their own aquaponics. Please do start of slow and step by step because you will see the change and what you need a long the way. e.g what plants need and how can you maintain/health them. I started off with 0 experience or 0 knowledge about aquaponics and I must say I really proud of myself. Now I know how to aquaponics and gardening! Happy Growing!😊

Hello Rob. Awesome channel and content you are creating here!. A colleague of me talked about aquaponics a while ago and it really got me thinking about the sustainability of food production nowdays. I will most definitely start a system myself as well. I do think I understands most of the basics of the systems. What I was thinking about were the dedeficiencies in plant after a while. I do have an ant farm at home ant I am breeding mealworms for them. Since fish eat mealworms as well I was wondering why you chose feed pallets instead of mealworms. I was asking this myself because mealworms are (besides a massive amount of protein) really rich in potassium, copper, sodium, selenium, iron, zinc and some essential linoleic acids. I thought that this could maybe solve the shortages of these nutrients in the system (I have to say I do not know what nutrients are within the pallets). So my question is: Do you have any experience with feeding mealworms to your fish and why did you chose for pallets instead? Keep up the good work on informing people of this awesome hobby. I am really enjoying all your videos!

Hi Erik. We do grow mealworms but more for the butcherbirds that spend their morning with us on the deck. We like to keep them happy so they do a pest patrol in the yard for us. 😉 The main reason I like the commercial pellets is that they are formulated for Aussie native fish so have all they require. I do know folks that tried to grow enough feed (bugs & plants) to feed their fish but had real issues with growth rates & trying to have enough on hand when the feed demand increased. Not saying it can't be done but it can be very time consuming if you have a decent number of fish in the tank. Hope that helps some mate & all the best.

great vid, but got to ask, why you don't clean that Green/Blackened algae off your the outside of the pipes in your fish tank, I know it keeps coming back, but. Back to vid Lewis M system system is that a fish tank cover with shade cloth over a TP lattice?

Hey Fred. I really don't think it robs enough nitrogen from the system so am happy to leave it be & only clean it once in a while. The jades eat any that forms on the walls & pipework inside. That's the tank & cover on Lewis's system. 👍I don't know him personally so can't tell you what sort of lattice was used sorry.

I like the Jebao, SunSun & Aqua Zonic pumps. All are available on Ebay & just as cheaply from online aquarium suppliers if that helps any.
