You need some screw in studs for the skid steer's tracks. They're like studs for tires with carbide tips, but they use them for snow mobiles and earth moving tires to get traction on ice and snow. Measure the lugs on the tracks and get the size that matches.

Yes some Bestgrip's, maybe 1500 model number. On tracks it doesn't take many studs for effect, as long as there's some in ground contact at all time it has a big effect.

I think it's worth it to get screw in studs for tires and put bunch of them in the skid steer tracks. Would probably help in ice like that. You can get ones for trucks that are bigger and stronger than for regular cars

Hey Hillbilly talk Robbie into modifying that grate on the front of the skid steer winch to make it fold down out of your site. Then swing back up once you're on the job. I know you guys got a million and one projects going on but that might help.Great video as usual.

Glad to hear that you have rehabilitated your criminal ways and stopped stealing cars off the side of the mountain! Maybe you could make that front grill on the skid steer removable. That way, it could be off when Hillbilly is driving it so he could see and put back on when using the winch, for safety.

The skid steer is an awesome winch vehicle. Hillbilly did some tricky and controlled experienced maneuvering to get it back on track when he started to slide.

0:19 .. Very unique using th skid steer for recoveries .. very efficient too for when i's a tough one. It's nice that Robb uses different methods .. keeps the rovervy videos interesting!! :)

Probably in your area it isn't used. But on icy roads you can use sand, to get grip. Just need to spread it. In northern Europe we use that in winter time, it can be very icy, like ice hockey icy or black ice

That was a good recovery but I think you need to get a set of headphones like Fab Rats Plus a set of tire chains for Fred! Something we used to do when I worked in Excavating in the winter is use square channel and bolt them to the tracks. Obviously you only want them on in the winter but you do recoveries in the winter so they will work!!

Something that will help for traction on ice is wood Ash. It’s amazing when you put it on the ice it starts melting the ice, but it also gives incredible traction.

Might be worth getting a sipe tool and grooving those tracks for winter use. It works well, increases your traction and not super expensive. You could make a video of it.

R, up north of you co/mtna, we have ice cleats on tracks. Kalamazoo ice racing cleats held on via bolts run through track with reinforcing plates/washers. Just a suggestion. Thx for video and hope family healthy and happy

One of the weaknesses of the Tracked skid steer is that the do not perform well on Ice. However there are some companies out there that make screw in studs for the tracks. They will not ruin the tracks and can be removed when Icy conditions are no longer an Issue. Having sold these skid steers and see how the studs work, it is a night and day difference in performance on Ice.
