I'm a forty-year carpenter myself and done similar projects. I'll tell you right now huge safety issue with Ed slipping on that varnished surface if there's any type of moisture at all. Take some epoxy resin roll it on the boards dusted with silica sand let it dry sweep it off and put another coat of epoxy over-the-top you'll still see the beautiful wood and Ed will be safe. This is a must-do!

I agree, however I also look at that ramp and see it made of spaced out with metal going across to ride on oh, well that might be okay for Implement equipment, and the bike maybe a 2-wheel drive, but one of the most important thing for a motorcycle trailer is to have a smooth transition on and off of the trailer. The ramp should be smooth and flat, instead of bars go in acrossed.

Having stacked a few hay bales in my life, when those beautiful boards get wet they are going to be really slick. An old farmer hack is to throw some sand on the final wet layer of paint-that way if the trailer is wet/damp, Ed’s feet won’t slide when loading/unloading.

RE the trailer tire pressure: Even 40 PSI is way too much considering how light the Rokon will be. Once you have the bike, I suggest loading it, then letting out enough air so the tires have about a 2-3 inch contact patch, and make note of the pressure. Those tires are meant to hold up like 1100# each. the Rokon will be no where near that. AIR DOWN FOR THE BETTER RIDE!!

Please put some anti-slip grit on the wood. Ed will bust a hip climbing on that trailer. First parade he uses the Nugget and pulls the Rokon trailer, some fan’s kid will be scuffing all that slick varnish up anyway. Pretty. But when boots are wet… slick as glass.

I know everyone is doing this for Ed. I feel like you might be missing an important detail. The ramp onto the trailer is a little skinny. Maybe putting an 8in wide step on either side of the ramp will help if he has to drop his feet while loading. He could easily fall off to one side or the other. My suggestion is to bolt on another couple pieces of reclaimed wood. It would greatly reduce any risk of an accident and wouldn't add to much more weight to the ramp. Maybe even give it a helper spring. Just a suggestion from an avid fan of all the channels involved! By the way, it looks absolutely amazing!!!

Absolutely beautiful trailer! The colors and materials are absolutely perfect! However, I do think the design concerns noted by previous posters are valid. That ramp seems a little too short, too steep, and not enough cross bars. Now, the Rokon has agricultural tires, so it will climb it, but it will be a bumpy ride and may be a bit too much for Ed to control. As for the slickness of the boards, that can be fixed easily by applying some strips of black skateboard tape. Otherwise, Robby has proven himself to be a master craftsman at his trade and as a former auto claims adjuster, I have worked with a lot of shops and Robby's seems top notch.
@thomasthompson38612 жыл бұрын
