I guarantee 'polish Rokon wheels' will never be on Ed's To Do. These guy's mission is to give Ed the nicest gift they possibly can. @@Robalo-2660 truckers near me, including log truck drivers, routinely give their trucks a periodic show shine that includes polishing the alcoa wheels, then go right back to work. Those wheels will re-patina right back to how they are, and everyone's fine with that. Polished aluminium looks fantastic, if only for a little while. Way better than chrome. So little is removed, nobody is harming snything to polish it, and all the over the top cosmetic work is just for the moment of presentation. Everything that happens after that is just whatever it ends up being. Everyone involved with this project has ensured that the fundamentals, the function, safety, and preservation of every component come first, then they're going over the top on cosmetics and upgrades. Running the tank dry for storage may work in a dry climate, but it is death in a humid climate. The tank will suck in moisture during the day/night temperature cycles and rust the inside of the tank. Where I live we try to store bikes for winter with a tank full to the brim and treated with Stabil or similar. This minimizes the space that can suck in moist air and rust. Also, leaving the carb float bowl full helps keep the seals from drying out.

Adding my two dollars as a 45+ year motorcycle mechanic, restorer, builder. LEAVE THOSE WHEELS ALONE. The metallurgy used in the casting does not polish well, they formulated those to not corrode. They are in wonderful condition for the age. Anything you do, will look horrible in short order, and coatings will get ruined with field repairs (tire irons) and use. Also contrary to all the comments, the dry carb is fine with the VP racing fuel you used, has all the necessary formulation to prevent problems. I don’t know the marching orders of B&B, but it’s very disappointing that they missed so many critical things.

Not sure I see the need to extreme polish the wheels. Clean them up but not polish. This is a working bike not a mall crawler! Love the details that you see to be dealt with and know you will. The excitement of you realizing how the bike works is contagious. Love the channel

DON'T polish the wheel. It'll scratch right up, which will make it look in worse condition that it is. Keep the brushed original look.

jewel the aluminum wheels

I'd say leave the rims alone, or powdercoat them argent silver...they dont need to be shiny

Why didn’t Sean send the frame fenders everything to you when they were rebuilding it so you can paint it and then they could’ve put it back together that would’ve been the common sense thing to do now you gotta tear it all the way down again to paint it I don’t understand people sometimes but great video I get to watch it get torn down all the way again from bikes and beards when I saw it on their channel

I vote brushed aluminum with just a scotch brite pad. That way when it gets a nick from a rock when riding it won’t be as noticeable like it would be on polished or even painted rims. Then it’s also very easy to touch up with scotch brite if they do get a little dinged up.

Hi there guys, enjoying your videos! I choose B: MAKE IT SHINE! ( if not the beautiful paint will fade 😅)
@terrallputnam79792 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely polish it to a mirror finish!

Don’t polish the rims without more info. A lot of that old aluminum left the surface aluminum oxide on because it’s super tough.

Your very much correct.

The Rokon also reminded me of a Tote Gote. I am not sure which motorcycle was more widely available but I thought because the Tote Gote was manufactured in Utah that not everyone who watched Robby videos would understand the reference. It seems like they were both made to serve off-road purposes. The Rokon seems much bigger and the two wheel drive would be nice to have in certain situations.

Nice work!! Getting that Rokon taken apart... it's getting so close to the finale. I'm getting excited to see it presented to Ed!! You guys (everyone who is part of the whole Nugget and Rokon package) are absolutely AWESOME!!!!!

You are doing a great job, as usual, but please hurry. Ed is older than me, and for us old guys days are numbered more certainly than for younger folk. He needs time to enjoy all these wonderful gifts, and time might be the MOST IMPORTANT gift of all…👴🏻

It might be too hot in the summer for Ed to enjoy his new toys now - hopefully they'll be done by fall. As my old man used to tell me "Time is fleeting".

I always have so much fun watching you all in these videos! :) --- Since the rest of the Rokon will be all shiny looking, why not make those aluminum rims just as shiny to match! :)
@Ddabig40mac2 жыл бұрын
Everything is so darn parade shiny may as well polish the wheels, too. I'm excited to see what this all looks like after Ed gets a lot of the showroom shine off of it.

This is a good example of having all sorts of easy to lose parts, or parts it’s hard to remember how they go back on. It would be interesting to see you, or maybe Dinner do a video of the inventory process you guys use to keep up with all of those pieces between start and finish.

Theres a guy in Nort Carolina i think that goes by palmetto polishing. He does some amazing work with aluminum, and could probably turn those wheels in to little mirrors. Just a suggestion, love to see the thought and care thats going in to this project.
