It is Demri's car... Get a 4.6 stroker like Matt is putting in Dejablue. It's a straightforward drop in. Make that little thing a screamer instead of a turbo LS death trap.

Randall amc, a dealership in Arizona, was selling 401 powered pacers that would get into the 13s in the quarter mile.... Literally frightening to ride in.... because they don't like anything over 80....and with the super short wheelbase, and the soft spring rate, when my buddy would do doughnuts, it felt like the rear quarter panel was Dragging on the ground.

I never owned an AMC vehicle but I DID own a 1974 Ford Pinto (with the exploding gas tank); to make matters worse after the OEM tires wore out at 20K miles I put on a set of Firestone 721 self-exploding radial tires. We didn't know . . . Angels and Ministers of Grace Defend Us. Hamlet Act 1, Scene 4 . Now, 50 years later ALL my family (and I) are still alive. Fortunately, now-a-days neither bacon nor eggs are on the 'Instant Death' list. Now we just call them Paleo and encourage their mass consumption. As Beldar, Prymatt and Connie Conehead might hear from the Highmaster: Therefore, you will... NARFTLE THE GARTHOK!

The Pacer was never popular, but innovative. Those BIG doors that Robby pointed out were part of the bigger design. Wait until he notices one is bigger than the other. To this day a lot of people hate them and think they are ugly, but I LOVE them. They were unique and ahead of their time. Never owned one, but I want to more all the time. I remember when they were new.

I'm seventy years old now, but I've had so much fun with cars over the years. This episode really made me remember all the tinkering over the years with engines that wouldn't start. But with knowledge and stubbornness, they finally got started. My feeling is for all boys whose curiosity and playfulness are summed up in the sentence: boys will always be boys. And like the boy I am... I love it.

AMC Sourced a ton of parts from different manufacturers in the 70s. As you go through it maybe you can name who made what. You've found Ford Components, the ignition switch and keys are GM, the (anemic) 232 six is all AMC, but I believe the auto trans may be Chrysler torqueflite. You'll find this beast all over the map. A shame AMC died, in a way they were ahead of their time with the 4WD Eagles. Now look at the SUV all wheel drive types we have on the road today. PS. I did hear of a guy in the area that gutted a Pacer for his backyard terrarium.

It's an interesting car; really, it is... In 1980, I saw one in Colorado that had been mounted to a 1970's Ford Bronco chassis ... 4X4 with a view. I have seen the AMC Pacer as well as their Gremlins with a Ford's 351/390ci, Chevy's 283/327ci, and Chrysler's 318/340ci engines squeezed into the engine compartment and Borg-Warner 4speed manual transmissions... Because in the last years of AMC they borrowed from Ford, Chrysler, and GM, on could get outrageously creative in creating a "sleeper" street machine in that era.

Brings back memories of when I was first stationed in Germany in 1980. While I was waiting for my vehicle to arrive from the States, I would ride to work with one of my coworkers who had a Pacer. Interesting car, especially when you had to consider how it stood out in Germany (which it also did in the States). What I remember most is how roomy it was and the amount of viewing out the sides and rear. I had not remembered that from all those years ago until I watched your video here. 🙂

The Pacer was built as an answer to the small cars built as a result of the oil embargo(s) of the 70's. People missed 'wide' cars, so the pacer had the bulging sides to make more interior room, i.e. a wider small car. Good luck.....

just a heads up Robby, that motor is basically the same as the jeep cherokee. so a cherokee motor could bolt up to the bell housing. also if those door handles are shot, you can pick up replacement jeep wrangler handles as amc used them on practically everything. carpet might still be available via some classic car part shops online. back when i still had a gremlin i found replacement carpet via a site that sponsored that show my classic car. can't remember the site's name now.

It was an interesting design, poorly executed mechanically. Reasonable aerodynamics for the era, and incredible visibility for not being a standard flat-top sedan format, it *could* have been an amazing car for the time. But cheaping out on pretty much the rest of the vehicle sort of doomed it. Kinda ugly, yeah... but people would have overlooked that if the rest of it worked to it's full potential. It would be fun if the guys gave this one the full restoration treatment, but we'll see...

My family had a 75 AMC Hornet 4dr Sportabout with the IL6 and a manual 3 on the tree shift. This thing deserves an AMC sb 304 and 904/998 Trans out of a cheap junkyard donor car. Get it running, driving and stopping, well enough that you can cruise it to events, paint it up in shop colors, and do some interior to it, then tweak it as needed, where needed. If you put an LS in it, it will be parked behind the dumpster for 3 years waiting for "the right time" to use it.

PACER DRIFT CAR! I thought that in the first 5 minutes of the video. In this case a LS swap is totally acceptable, but a 4.6 AMC turbo stroker motor would be kinda cool (and expensive). Anyway, gut it, paint it and make it pretty, put in a cage and proper suspension, and let the Boss let out her inner drift car drive out. It’s a bit out of your comfort zone a bit, but would be fun. Right Demri?

Fun facts measure the length of both doors . Right side door is a few inches longer . To give passengers more room to get in and out . And the reason it had their straight six was because they were going to use a 4 cul. engine supplied by Renault of France Can you see that car with a 4 banger ? AMC found out the hard way - that didn't work ! Their six was a last minute replacement . People who had them new ( like my aunt ) loved them . Have fun! Party on !

Keep the 6 and go forced induction for sure 😎 maybe experiment with a compound turbo?

My aunt had one when I was 14 years old. I used to drive it and smoke the tires off, It was crazy how much power the little things had. We used to call them the bathtub cars.😅😂

I hope you do more of a restoration on this one and keep it semi original looking maybe just lower it with some wheels, reliable drivetrain doesn’t even have to be an LS, new paint job, clean up the interior. Would be a pretty sweet daily.

Revival of a AMC PACER is going to be pay-dirt for your channel Robby! Huge score for Demri!

Take all the new good parts off the Lame-O and put 'em on the Pacer. Beef up that existing engine. With the wheels naturally pulled out to the corners, that would make a hell of a lifted but domesticated crawler... Demri Style.

I think this is the perfect opportunity for you to make another clone of a MORR vehicle. Perhaps after Dory the Explory is completed, the Mirthmobile should become a Morrvair clone! Instead of an odd 1960s wagon being converted into an off-road beast, you convert an odd 1970s wagon into an off-road beast. I would love to see that build, milked or not!
