1967 VW Bus Super Charger Install

This is a pretty long video about my experience installing a supercharger kit onto my 1967 Volkswagen Transporter. I am a professional athlete, but cars have always been one of my passions. I wanted to give my Bus more power, and in looking at options, from installing duel Webers to buying a turn-key engine online, I stumbled upon Kompressor Haus in the UK. This seemed interesting, and sounded like something that could potentially tackle myself. So I purchased their "Ultimate Supercharger Kit." This is by no means a "professional how-to" video, but shows in detail the steps required for an enthusiast to attack a "do it yourself" installation of the Kompressor Haus Ultimate Supercharger Kit and my encounters along the way.

Thanks for sharing Robby!!, it's winter in Argentina, Cordoba, a mediterranean province with beautiful lakes, the weather when it normally blows, but it's been a couple of weeks since we've been in the water and it's quite cold, so I'm also in the home workshop doing maintenance on my motorcycle and I played your video for company, listening and looking out of the corner of my eye, very interesting work, congratulations and enjoy the ride!!!

I bilt a 2332 and have been pondering this, and as expected, I've been watching plenty of supercharger installations. One individual used a spacer between the supercharger and carburetor intake which avoided the alternator problem. That's a pretty nice van you have there

great looking car - that deep blue and white brings it to life! my knuckles would have all been busted/scraped by day 2 :O but a treat to watch the vid; the maui breeze at a peaceful location is heaven on earth IMO. reminds me of when my fam had lunch behind Lindbergh/church area during our visit :)

Great to see you finally having the time to work on your cars, I know you have wanted to for a long time now. Still remember you telling me in the Gorge how much fun you had cleaning up and detailing your Uncle's 240Z when you were younger. When you do pull the carb to get more clearance, put in a drip pan between the carb and the alternator. Webers have a habit of weeping after they flood and the fuel will go straight onto the alternator and light up! My Lotus Esprit has this same problem and I know of a few that have burnt to the ground. Cheers, Kean

Cool work Robby. Tight clearances! A bit of safety advice, although I know how nice it is to be able to see fuel flowing on these older vehicles when troubleshooting, you should replace that clear plastic fuel filter with a metal one. The plastic one can break at the nipples after heat cycles and vibrations in the engine bay....

Hello Robby,...a beautiful old VW bus and I can well understand your enthusiasm. I had a high-roof bus from the German post office (built around 1973) converted into a camper van in dark blue at the beginning of the 1980s. (1600cc/50ps) I often used it with my friend at weekends in Renesse,....du can imagine why. I had large "PatLove" sail stickers on both cab doors. It was a great time, even though we always had to go to the campsites in the evening. Greetings and have fun with the bus!🤣😉

Excellent video Robby . Next time take the engine out , it's about 15 minutes work and it makes working on the engine soooo much easier . I spent an hour messing with the generator and fan then I decided the engine needed to come out , I couldn't believe how easy it was and how easy working on the engine on the floor was .

Dude pushin' 70 and still hitting the swell at Jaws... not you the bus. In either case caps off👣 "hopefully leak proof..."🤨 🍌🍌🍌 Given a fire extinguisher... I'd be stoked to feel the power differential compared to stock. No longer putting over Highway 9 to get to Santa Cruz (?) or up Highway 1 to Wadell Creek would be quite a different experience. (?) 🤙

Nice set!.. tooltip..get yourself a quickjack it makes things easier. For safety reasons I personally never install fuel filter and pump inside the engine bay.. but thats just me. Great video!

Three quivers. 8 boards. Even found an old Naish Supercross 264 that I love. It's an incredible time to get into windsurfing. Everyone is super stoked and encouraging. It is close, but has a rubber boot and a hard plastic shim between them as well. I do not think there is too much heat there...

@@RobbyNaishUS1111 okay…as long you it have under the radar :-) I am not an expert …just knowing that very high temperatures can occur and that the plastic might melt because of that. In the videos it seems nearly touching it so close it looks

What happens if the 60amp alternator grounds out on the carburetor 2mm above it? 😳

That would not be at all good. There is a rubber boot over the amp positive terminal, with no threads sticking out on top (cut down to the nut). I also put a hard plastic shim between the alternator and the carburator just in case. They are not touching, but it is close. Now that it is finished, I will likely pull off the carb and compressor and bang out a bit more room on top of the engine bay, letting me angle in just a tad more clearance between the carb and alternator. In the whole scope of things, this will not take too much time or be too much trouble. There is also a bit of idle "rattle" with the top of the two units coming in contact with the ingine bay top that I would love to eliminate. Thank you for your concern!

Yes, some do for sure. I looked at doing an STI swap,,,, but decided it needed to stay VW powered. And I can at least kind of work my way around an air cooled motor like this myself... likely not the case with a water cooled, computerized, turbo flat four.
