Jace Belanger Sorry this is long but please read: I don’t think that Denise was incentivized because of the 1 now, 1 later agreement. In fact I think that agreement makes the most sense and it’s what I expected Wendell and Parv to do if they decided to go down that road. Because imagine if Parv gave Wendell 2 tokens, and then he voted her out anyways, keeping both saying “it’s survivor I don’t even feel bad, bro.” The 1 now 1 later makes sense. Now... the thing about the Sandra/Denise agreement was that Sandra made a high risk high reward decision. She wagered that Denise would actually do her bidding for her, and that she would get one of the guys voted off all while keeping her hands clean, which would’ve paid major dividends down the road. The problem is, she left the ball in Denise’s court and gave Denise a situation where she had a perfect opportunity to betray Sandra. I think Sandra also made it very clear she felt the threats needed to stick together so I don’t think Denise actually thought they could or would have a mutualistic alliance going forward. Sandra was just trying to convert her expiring advantage into tokens, and have someone do her dirty work; she had no intentions of working with Denise. Thus, Denise knew that- and voted her off. Another thing: Denise had to play the idol on Jeremy; because if Sandra or anyone else did split the vote... then Jeremy likely would’ve gone home and it would’ve been obvious what Denise tried to do to Sandra and she would have to still be in the game with Sandra and face her wrath. Her move would’ve gone belly up. The second idol guaranteed the play to be successful and bought her a little loyalty from Jeremy, someone more likely to work with Denise than Sandra ever was.

Denise played Sandra beautifully. I loved her little nods to Sandra during the tribal council. Stephen makes a good point about the merge being soon. As they've said before, once the merge happens Sandra is very dangerous. I think Denise made a pretty good move. Even with this bomb on her resume. People are still going to look at Tony, Jeremy, and Kim before they look at her.

It was brutal, but this was the most mathematically advantageous move for Denise. I really wanted this risky play succeed for Sandra though. It was very entertaining to watch Sandra trying to pull this off.

The way the Wendell and Pavarti thing happened at tribal was pretty clear to me. Nick must have went directly to Wendell and asked him what he told Pavarti. So Wendell was just verifying what he told Nick was true at tribal, and thought he might be able to grab Pavarti's tokens so Michelle couldn't get them and still vote her out.

The funny thing is, the sandra move of selling her idol for tokens is actually a perfect move in every situation except for what played out. If Denise doesn't already have her own idol, Sandra offloads an advantage thats now useless to her, she gains tokens, she gets an ally in Denise, she gets Tony out and she gets no blood on her hands for the move. Would've been a great move otherwise.

@@Highwind452 maybe just not part of the edit, but my impression was that he wanted to downplay that, so the only instance he has mentioned that was to Wendell and Sarah (I think he told Dalton in an interview that it just slipped out). It may just be Yul's overall demeanor. Impression from Ep. 1 was that he was the first to ask what she wanted to do and it happened to be what he likes and he really made it feel like it was her decision. I'm clearly biased, but Yul's old school social game is insane.

Once Denise and sandra made the trade i had the exact thought of "denise should just vote sandra off" Sandra tried to manipulate Denise, she assumed that Denise would just do her bidding. Denise has said that prefers playing with people who are predictable. Sandra coming to her with such a flashy self interested move only opened the door for Denise to eliminate a wild card. So Sandra said in an interview (it’s on the survivor twitter) that she told Denise to vote Jeremy because him and Tony were bonding. So I think Denise could have thought the vote would be 2 on her and 2 on Jeremy she uses the idol and he get votes out. That could have been the logic behind using the second idol on him just to insure nothing happened

Same thing happened in All-Stars and HvV a little bit. But then the players who made it to the end became the new “stars”. It’s kind of impossible to go deep in your 2nd season if you were regarded as a hugely impressive winner/player your first time (Parvati in HvV and Rob in Redemption Island are the only exceptions)

I'm not even a Sandra fan; I'm just someone who long ago matured into acknowledging that external theories, or how the game is supposed to unfold (in the minds of people who have actually never played Survivor), mean very little in actual application. Sandra's "anyone but me" game-plan is as good as any "complex" one. Unfortunately she long ago abandoned that approach when she became more proactive - probably to prove a point to gamebot superfans who admonished her for "not playing". That was the most appropriate strategy for her, and it got her to win the game twice - that's all that matter. The game is played in real time - not retroactively.

I would bet that the Fire Tokens menu is changed come the merge. It would change the game to have a new menu more valuable post-merge with an idol being an option for 4 tokens and food as an option for 1 or 2. Also would be great for challenge bargaining "You drop out and I'll give you a fire token." kind of thing.

I agree Denise probably shouldn't have played the second idol. Jeremy's not as disloyal as some of the others, but he wouldn't think twice to vote an ally out to save himself. I LOVED this move on Denise's part though! I didn't see her as a serious contender this season (she probably still isn't), but she really surprised me! I loved that she said she was so nervous after she pulled it off ^^ she reaaaaally utilized the fact she was underestimated.

Guys.... Not true. Sandra actually went to 1st. It was just EDITED to show that Sandra went second because her exit was so dramatic. Sele got second in the challenge Dakal got last. So Dakal went to tribal 1st. If you pay attention you would notice it. So Parv went out last and that's how it SHOULD HAVE BEEN in HvV.

Great move by Denisse. She wanted to nullify the vote of sandra in case she votes off jeremy. If there was a tie between jeremy and sandra, jeremy would be voted off and Denisse did not want that. So she gave the idol to jeremy just in case there is a tie.

Ugh... no, Stephen, expiring idols are not all great. They also make it way easier to be played - you KNOW you have only a certain amount of time, while if you know you can save them almost til the end, there is the constant drama of "should i play it or save it" - Kelly and Lauren's idols a great example. The Cirie thing was bad but that was simply because there were one too MANY idols/advantages. And the fact that the players this season are given advantages pretty much without any effort... i hate it. Australian Survivor is simply doing it better this year (loved how a certain player had to work hard for a simple bonus vote)

If you’re on the edge of extinction, you can buy an idol for 3 tokens but if you’re still in the game, you can’t really use them to buy anything (so far)

This is a fundamental reason why Rob and Steven would and will never win. They are fawning all over Denise’s play but can’t appreciate the subtle but unwavering move of Wendall. Parv went to Wendall because she has no in with Yul, despite the edit Nick is Married. Wendall is single but possesses sway in the tribe. He had every intention of voting her out and Parv had every intention of voting him and blowing up his game. He made that statement at tribal council to get in front of her thinking she had something on him. Most of the guys and women she has dealt with in the game are not prepared to have their dirty laundry or conversations aired out in public. Wendall is made to look the villain but all he’s doing is Surviving.

Good survivor twist. If you have a way to get it to Probst it would be AMAZING. I have a few actually but here is number 1. Jeff brings everyone in for a tribal immunity challenge, he says there is a note and it will be read after the challenge is over. Challenge is over Pagong won sending Tagi to tribal council. Jeff reads the note "Everyone drop your buffs we are changing things up". A tribe swap AFTER an immunity challenge and not BEFORE like every other time. Make it a late day early night challenge and send them straight to tribal.
