Thanks for the kind words, guys! 2015 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for us at Marshall, and we can't wait to show off what we're working on. The 2555X is a permanent part of our Vintage Re-Issue Series, so it's here for good or until we tell you otherwise! And Rob, we'll pass on the comments about a mini Jubilee to our R&D chaps!

Marshall might not be known for their cleans, but John Frusciante used Marshalls and he had most magical clean tone ever. So there is that.
@hughtubecube
@hughtubecube 9 жыл бұрын
SRV used a Fender and a Marshall the 'wrong way' (dirty Fender, clean Marshall), and he had a fantastically crisp clean tone, so there must be something in that.
@catdumpling
@catdumpling 9 жыл бұрын
hughtubecube True, but at least one of the Marshalls SRV used was the 4140 Club & Country Combo, which was a weird circuit for Marshall. It was supposed to be their answer to a Fender Twin and didn't really sound like a regular Marshall (it had very Fender-ish clean tones.) It never really took off and there weren't a whole lot imported into the US, so they're kind of rare. It was more like he was using two Fenders, except one said "Marshall" on the front. FWIW, Alex Lifeson used the same amp quite a bit in the early to mid-80's Rush stuff, including the Moving Pictures, Signals and Grace Under Pressure albums (before he switched over to a bunch of solid state amps for a while, inventing the World's Thinnest Guitar Tone.)

tMattLZ he uses plexi's for his clean tones which are known & revered for their cleans (think hendrix clean) & jubilees for his dirty tones, which have a usable but not inspiring tone, I've owned both 100 & 50 watt jubilees bought both times on reputation sold both times on underwhelming reality.

The rhythm clip DOES have an affect on the overall tone when on Lead mode. With the clip pulled out, it has a thinner more midrangy sound. I prefer it pushed in as it gave me a more fatter, robust punch. Thicker if you will.

I bought this amp about a month a go. I love it. It's awesome! I've never used the rhythm clip because of the lose of output, but aside from that I can achieve a similar tone on the lead channel by rolling back the volume on my guitar. Fantastic amp! Love it!

Yep. And it was a favorite of Slash, Joe Bonamassa for years, and RIch Robinson for awhile. I love the tone of the Jubilee. I think it's cleans and slightly dirty sounds separate it from other Marshalls, and it's lead gain sounds cry out.

I like it. By comparison to the JCM-800, the 2525 Jubilee sounds just like an 800 with an extra gain stage on the lead channel, but it doesn't sound buzzy like the 900's did. It just has that classic Marshall tone, Great demo, well done!

Just gotta say, guys, that I think your vids are so informative, so even-handed, and . . . humane. You guys find a positive, supportive spin for every product and every player. I can't imagine that anyone feels like they've personally been maligned in either their choice of music styles, opinions of gear, playing ability, or their favorite artist's playing ability. I appreciate the way you present all your videos, and though I watch them for the information, I'm also just completely entertained by them. They're fun! Thanks guys, for great, informative fun on youtube!

Wow, this sounds like the Marshall I heard growing up in the 80's/90's. I don't know what happened with the DSL/TSL's around 2000, almost impossible to play lead on, the notes died instantly. This sounds like what Marshall amps should sound like.

In '87 Marshall also made a 25/50 watt version with two 2 x12 cabs, 1 slant and 1 straight diagonally positioned speakers. I had two of those stacks years ago. Still to this day those were the best sounding Marshalls I have ever heard. Chappers might like it better if he used a Dimarzio equipped guitar ( not the tinny/trebly SD style pups ) and tuned down a step. That setup makes those amps insanely good. The tone would rival any mesa out there.

nick katsoulis i agree, the jvm is a very good sounding and versatile amp, but it's not the same as a jcm800 or jubilee to my ears. If you are in a band and play a lot of styles the jvm is a better amp. But if you almost only play classic rock and some blues stuff the jubilee will make you very happy.

Wow, I gotta say that ROB is the one with the controversial statement saying any of those bands are even worthy to be in the same conversation as Elvis, Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Van Halen. Just because you're doing something new and different doesn't mean it's groundbreaking, and it doesn't mean it's good. All those legends had 1 thing in common when they were breaking all the rules and writing new ones: The whole WORLD took notice and went crazy because they couldn't get enough. They weren't niche bands that simply had cred in the circle of whatever genre they were in. These are artists that people with all musical tastes from all time periods not merely APPRECIATE but wholeheartedly LOVE and get excited about. That's the secret, and that's what makes it so hard, so rare, so valuable. Mozart is still awesome. Led Zeppelin and Hendrix will always be awesome. They were FIFTY years ago and the KIDS today are still getting their minds blown when they discover that music for the first time and are being influenced and inspired by them. Does anyone really think in the year 2045 Periphery isn't going to be lost and buried under whatever music trends are happening at the time and the true legends that survive forever? Musical sacrilege Rob, musical sacrilege.

This amp delivers. Ultimate Marshall tones and the did that one right when it came out in 1978. Still today it is the best "modded" Marshall circuits IMO. Yes, some sound more brutal, some more modern but this Marshall circuit gives all the great Marshall tones a player needs. This RI is maybe even better than back in the days. Well done, good people at Marshall. Can´t wait for the news and thanks for the Jubilee \m/

Love this banter - I think that many bands push boundaries now, the same way Zeppelin and Van Halen did, but the big difference is the commercial success. Hendrix changed the guitar world as we know it, but was also one of the best selling artists if his day. When a band can achieve both of these principles, it is "ground breaking"... otherwise they are pushing boundaries that wont matter to the masses. Side note, love my ML3 Traditional!!

Oddly one of my favourite demo videos from Andertons. The little discussion about shifts in music and Lee's take on Elvis to Jimi to Zeppelin etc. (the general progression into todays musical landscape.) I see where he's coming from, and although not being old enough to see the way he's seen it, especially working in the music business as long as he has. I feel that Chapper's put it perfectly by saying "we look back with that kind of fond familiarity." Moreover, although it may seem like an obvious step "forward" (to some) by experimenting with extended range guitars, new more percussive techniques (sometimes as a result of fusing elements of existing styles such as flamenco and jazz,) interweaving song structures (and rhythmical phrases) along with somewhat one sided vocals (much to my dismay). In my opinion what will really take us to the next "progression" if you will of music as a concept and tonic for the masses, is the way in which the masses receive and understand these "newish" genres (and all genres for that matter) despite target audiences and marketing ploys.

I'd have to disagree with Lee's comment about the late 70's Marshalls... some of the greatest tones came out of those amps. I personally own a 1976 JMP 1959 and a 1979 JMP 2203 and they're just fantastic. The JMP 2203 was the Daddy to the JCM800!! Back in Black was recorded with a '76 JMP 1959... some of the best guitar tone in the world. Idk, I love this jubilee, no argument there whatsoever, sounds amazing. But I wouldn't be so quick to discredit Marshall pre-1980...
@CaptAnderton

I agree with you that the JMP amps were awesome - I wasn't criticising them. I just know that Marshall weren't selling much around 1980 and the JCM800 literally saved the business. I guess despite how good we think JMP amps sound, at the time guitar players must have wanted something else.

Thanks for the reply Lee! Interesting how that works isn't it? The amps that weren't selling as much are now some of the most sought after ones in today's market... The JCM800 has always been a massive flagship for the company, and i don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon. Thanks for the great demo!

I think the issue was cosmetic. Had the jmp 2203 looked like the newer one people would have bought it.

Keep in mind you're running V30's that are probably not broken-in, too. Probably why it sounds a bit trebly too.

Fun fact: Def Leppard did not use Marshalls on PSSOM. In fact, virtually _all_ of the guitars on Hysteria were recorded through...(wait for it)...Rockmans! There's hardly a tube amp anywhere on that record. I believe it was also around that time that they started using the JMP-1 preamp live, which they used for years and years (I think Phil Collen actually _still_ uses it for his main live tone.) Def Leppard's distortion tones have been mostly solid state for a couple decades now.

***** Yes, thanks, that Joe Elliot guy is a complete Ass. Actually now a FAT ASS.. Steve Clark was the man for this band and since, they are a bunch of over produced lame old rockers. And that whole one arm drummer bullshit, The guy didn't even record the pyromania album. It was all samples.

midirok Okay, I have to admit I'm confused now: are you slagging of Hysteria, or just everything _since_? Because Steve Clark was most definitely on Hysteria. Regardless, I agree that Clark was an important part of the band and I haven't been interested in much of anything they've done since he died.

They could be talking about the"real"Def Leppard before Hysteria that was all Marshall.
