Detaching yourself from the process is so freeing. Worked for Bowie! Kiss literally painted their faces to hide their identity!

Strange how that works so well. I'll be talking about it in my creative process video. :)

Bowie and rick wake man said let the producers editors etc do their thing so when they come back it's like the closest they get to hearing the full song for the first time

19:48 it sounds pretty Van Halen-ey to me, although it just very 80’s. Love it!

Hey Mike! Hats off to you for staying true to the craft and not using AI to "generate" content! My musical experiences are similar...know your gear and know your craft. I also appreciate your writing/composition process. Again...similar here. The song is GREAT! Really good job capturing the 80's KISS sound and vibe IMHO!

Really enjoyed the breakdown!!! Hopefully open new avenues up for you!!! Are you videoing how you play the parts in case you need to revisit in the future or even for song tutorials? I can see The- Art-of-Guitar album/cd in the future!

No I can remember riffs pretty well. Might take a bit though.

Great breakdown. It's fascinating hearing other artists creative process. I've been recording myself, but have been having a hard time because I can't play anything out loud, it's all through earphones. Apartment life... Does that string straightener require the removal of the truss rod cover, or did you forget like I do after adjusting it? It cuts through the mix because it's a Les Paul. That's what makes them so special.
@TheArtofGuitar13 сағат бұрын
True about the Les Paul. No I have the cover here somewhere. I'll put it back on someday soon. :)

Great breakdown, Mike. Honestly on the solo, I thought it was great for the 8 bars you gave yourself to pull it off. Keep up the great work, dude! One more thing... Think you can do a breakdown on the song "Room 19"? That song has been living rent free in my head... Lol

this was some really cool behind the scenes insight into your &_ __ {..& quite a lot of many people's) . ... _ __ process . [ proceesesees, .. ?? 🤔 ] .. anyway, I enjoyed it, & if you haven't already, you should do more videos in this vein, a seldom explored realm and side of the spectrum regarding musical artistry, (ie., - 'the writing/inspiration/composition/arranging/recording/etc.' - aspects)

Yep I’m doing one on the creative process. I think it’s gonna be helpful. Hope so at least. :)

Not only are you in the credits as the songwriter, but also as the producer. Personally, I like the decision to put in the piano, and also your vocal levels. The guitar does not get a chance to overpower them.
@rkchang772 сағат бұрын
Have you ever written and/or recorded for an instrument that you don't play yourself? Do you hire players, or do you try to do some sort of MIDI approximation? I ask because I've been working on for a while (on and off), and I don't know any local horn players.
@briankeenan490111 сағат бұрын
Lots of Doo Doo...? Hmmm....well, ok. I completely sympathize with you. I've been composing songs for 50 years. And to explain the process to somebody is like trying to disarm a bomb while blindfolded. But don't worry, those of us with experience and talent know exactly what you're talking about.

I completely agree with the pedal analogy for the vocal, but 'Kits' describes itself as an AI singing generator. Now that you've "revealed" how you got the vocal, are you concerned that there'll be a backlash from people who will bizarrely feel cheated in some way? Also, when you said you'd increase the vocal dB and take it up to 125bpm if you ever recorded it again, what is stopping you from just tweaking the recording you released to make it how you would now prefer? Is it too time consuming/not possible to adjust the current recording and as such you'd have to re-do the entire song? Thanks, Chris.
@TheArtofGuitar13 сағат бұрын
I'm not concerned about it. I still wrote the words, melody, and sang it. People can say what they want but I'm going to keep going. I'm more inspired than ever about writing. :)

@@TheArtofGuitarI was literally in the middle of writing, 'Or are you not concerned about it, there's people who'll care and there's people who'll not, and that's all good, I still put the work in...', and the baby woke up, so I posted it as quickly as I could before it got lost in the sea of comments 😅. Any reason to not tweak the vocal dB and bpm to how you'd now prefer and release it again? Thanks for replying, really appreciated.
@TheArtofGuitar12 сағат бұрын
No worries ;) I probably will tweak it in time. I just uploaded it to Spotify but would recut any of the original songs in the future depending what I do with them. :)

@@TheArtofGuitar Okay, genuinely the last thing I'm going to say and then I'll be promptly shutting up. According to KZbin's and Spotify's terms, any vocal altered to sound like a real person must be disclosed/permitted. I'm concerned, and I know that's ridiculous, that if the song, as it well should, goes viral/gets loads of listens/views it'll get taken down or be rinsed by some horrible music executive. I'm actually just projecting my insecurities onto the situation and freaking out something unjust will happen and all of your hard work will be nabbed by some bugger in a suit. I am also unable to comprehend the sheer level of confidence to know there's something you could change to how you'd prefer and just leave it as it is. That is genuinely inspirational. I'm now going to go back to my main hobby of mall walking 🤫

I went back and added an "altered" tag on my videos that I used it on. I figure it's smart so thank you for letting me know. :)
