It seems like a lot of your challenges involve really going for a rock/metal or a blues/rock tone. It'd be cool to see where you guys'd go if you had to get something really different. Kinda the opposite of the 'inappropriate sounds' thing you were talking about.

+SIMON Alex Lifeson used ES-335's for decades. Now Rush isn't METAL but he played some pretty damn heavy stuff just the same. My ES-339 can burn pretty good through an Orange Terror head.

Very entertaining although i don't think i'm going to walk into guitar stores blind from now on, mainly for health and safety reasons. Rob actually got really lucky with his rig, but his endtone didn't really float my boat. Differtent strokes for different folkes i guess ;)

I went looking for a 'guitar for metal with a double locking tremolo. I looked at all the usual suspects like Ibanez, LTD and Schecter of which the shop had none. All they did have was a PRS SE Torero with EMGs and a Floyd Rose. Never even thought of that! So I tried it and didn't want to put it down again. I ended up buying the guitar and I love it to bits!
