I had a rule i came up with during mechanical engineering senior design project: if its not ready 2 days before, its not ready the day of. ESPECIALLY with no testing or shakedowns, ESPECIALLY because you need to get to know the car intimately. A year of driving the car and racing it before pikes peak would set you Hopefully nothing went wrong at pikes peak, wouldnt wanna see you fly off a cliff because yall forgot or rushed something. Its a lesson youll learn once. I would have scrapped and done it another time lol, sometimes the hardest thing to do is change the plans you set for yourself, especially when you put in 14 hour days for it, trust me i know lol

In Formula Student, more seat time is often worth more lap time (and reliability) than a new aero part etc. That's why we had a guy purely focused on project planning, to limit our scope and deliver a product on time with sufficient testing time and margin. But hey, I'm still not any better at deadlines.
@mm6705
@mm6705 3 ай бұрын
thats a really good idea. Very wise to limit scope because testing and shakedowns are not to be rushed either. Just from what little I saw in this video, there are several high risk areas I'd be VERY surprised that didn't cause issues. Rob needs someone to help him alter his expectations. Most competitors take MULTIPLE YEARS of submitting an incrementally improved race car to just FINISH the race. Let alone get a good time? Like, bro. lol

Gonna be honest, the whole "grind to the eleventh hour" bit is getting old. I wanna see "early delivery with a gantt chart" daddy dahm. Edit: also not loving the "talk down on my team for being lazy" angle. @RobDahm

100 percent agree. I padded the project plan with 2 months of testing and was super stressed months ago when deadlines werent getting hit. Its tough to hide my disappointment as i was begging people to take it seriously back then. Either way it reflects poorly on me. No more. It puts my life on the line at this point and makes a joke out of my whole push. Im just tired of hiding it. I do not want to be last second. My IT business never had this sort of issue. I have to get used to the flaky nature of fabrication and machine shops. from Jan 26 on i did nothing but prepare for pikes peak. I went to several driving schools while the team was supposed to build the car. Literally nothing got done while i was gone. So driving went from the biggest liability to the most prepared part. At the end of the day its 100 my fault. but i have to switch things up because im tired of having to do a hail mary last second because people dont take it serious until the last second. I promoted ethan to shop lead as hes the only person who reviewed my 1000 line gantt chart at all and kept on task. Thats the sort of internal management i desperately need.

I thought this too. Was Rona little annoyed around 22:00, about everyone having some time off? It must be so stressful, but I’m glad they made it!

A "fender protector" for Rob Dahm is like "scented toilet paper" .. It sounds like a good idea, but in the real world... Just not practical or necessary!! 😂

Talk about beyond the last minute! I think time travel was required to make this happen. Also props for the most intense trailer loading ever. I hope you got some footage on Trevor's dyno at MotionAutoTV! If not, still can't wait for everything on the mountain. Our deadlines weren't nearly as intense, but reminds me of some of the morning to next morning stints I pulled working on Rotaru.

You all are straight up machines.......no sleep and trying to concentrate is probably the hardest thing you can do. Like being drunk and doing math non-stop. I hope everything went well and you reached the actual top! I felt the pressure in this video like in no other hahaha. Actually CANNOT wait to see the run! Massive huevos to try this with you own machine Rob. Did you at least try the breaks before you started the run?!!?
