I'm not a mechanic, but I do electrical on machines. At 26:20 I would personally do 1 fuse per side, per fuel and intion. So 3 fuses for Ignition and 3 for fuel injection. This makes you able to quickly find where the problem is, while always having at least 2/3 of the engine running, if a component shorts and blows a fuse. You could do just 1 fuse per rotor line, but that would increase cable size.
@michaelh.1262Ай бұрын
I know completely nothing, but wouldn’t the downside to that be that 2/3rds of the engine would still be running? Of course the serviceability on the machines you do your work on the more the better, and makes future technicians jobs easier I’d hope, but the dahm team may not need that for an engine. More isn’t always better in every case, and if it doesn’t have to be complex why make it complex.
@BlommefeldtАй бұрын
@michaelh.1262 I've never heard of that being an issue. Some engines do that to be more fuel efficient: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_displacement It would be a problem, if the engine stops, if you are going uphill with the next car driving close to you. I can't think of a scenario where it will be bad to have an engine running, that you can shut off, if you want to.
@braixeninfection6312Ай бұрын
It's always best to have systems be separate. So one piece having an issue doesn't kill everything else. It may be annoying that cars have 50+ fuses but it's for a reason. I would rather have the separate fuse for each line. 6 in total as one for each fuel and ignition. Just because it is such a massive system. Plus a separate fuse for the computer and more for the other pieces. He might want a large fuse block to make it easier to keep tidy.

It's a shame how Rob is configuring these turbos, meaning, this package won't fit in absolute 💩 😅 The base 12 rotor and mounts are sized as a BBC (Big Block Chevy, the OG meaning you sick bastards) , so you could literally stuff/slide/insert it into anything a BBC would fit into, from an OBS GMC/Chevy truck, to a 65 Chevelle, to an Iroc-Z Camaro, to even a Miata if you really wanted to (the truck would be best due to the weight of the thing though)...so if he just figured out what he was putting it in _first_ , he could then place the turbos _wherever_ , say a standard cab short bed 93-94 GMC Sierra GT/90-93 Chevy 454SS , place the "78B" 12 Rotor into the bay, and then build the exhaust back to the bed where you could house all the turbos offsetting some of the weight, then pipe the cold sides back to the engine bay.... that would be best IMO... and I'm going to copy my comment and use it as a main as well, maybe he'll see it and do so....he can use my 97 RCSB GMC Sierra K1500, it's obviously 4wd, with a 6" lift and 35x12.5" Patagonias on it, but a 4wd burnout by means of a triple turbo 78B would be sick AF 😅

Hey Rob, My Brocephus, How do I Apply for a Job with you? Im a mechanic with 25+ yrs experience. I started as a child building drag cars with my family and then when I got older and my friends cars would break down I would let them know what broke and then fix it for them and that turned into a passion for Anything and Everyday Automotive!!! Im 44 now, and have been a professional mechanic since I was 24, but like I said before, I started as a child. My first memories are under the hood of a 68' chevy stepside!!! But I've been told I was under the hood of a 71' Camaro before that. Lol. Long story short, I absolutely Love ALL things Automotive and You're Def one of my fave Automotive Channels!!!

Damn Rob youre living the dream. I live in Germany where all this comes from and I would love to support you with my mechanical skills but I live way to far away. Maybe sometime I will do my traveltrip with my girlfriend (which I addicted to motorsport aswell) and when I make a trip to the States I would love to have a beer with y'all and see, hear, and feel all this in reallife if possible. Keep it going man. Hau rein mein Bester! :)

Dude, thanks for your videos, always! Most people don't mind waiting for a really good video regardless of the length. I mean you could have just took it all the way to firing and that would've been awesome!

Rob, had you considered using a brilliantly analogue method for load balancing all the banks? I've seen it work well for dual banks on piston engines as well as anything else; where you take your hot side output of Bank A and the charged air feeds Bank B, and the reverse where Bank B's power charges Bank A. This crossover ensures that if Bank A makes an excess of power, the power doesn't continue only overpowering that single bank, the excess boost goes to the Bank that needs it. This system has no limitation in it's application to three Banks. (in theory). There may be a possibility to hiccup slightly if the power levels are wildly off across the three, but that should also be correctable by switching which output boosts which input. (and if this situation did arise where the bank power is wildly variable the system still limits each bank to the lowest performing of the three as a result of the lowest output stage creating the charge air for one of the other two anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong but at some point this balancing would have to be considered and controlled anyway, offloaded to things like throttle body position, boost cut/wg duty, or timing. Hopefully it works or gives you an even better idea on where to cross over each rotor bank or even individual exhaust port to which turbine and ultimately compressor to make this magic itself on autopilot. anecdotally, I think Smokey Nagata used this once when he was force to use dual ECU's on his V12 swap experiment back in the day in Japan? But i'm likely misattributing that.. best of luck man.,

Real technical guy, thinks of a lot of things others might not while building cars.... Then I see him try to jack up an indy car on the nose cone... to no one but Rob's surprise it broke. XD But hey, the fact he even kept that in is a testament to how he does things, doesn't really do clips of everything being right, removing any flaws, we get to see both good and bad, including fails. Which is a good thing!

What is big enough to house this engine? Love the update on the build.
@gt1man931Ай бұрын
It was designed to go in a boat, so something like an offshore V hull, a big cigarette type one.
