a trick for dealing with chatter when milling the header flange is to single-point fly cut it. if you dont want to buy a special flycutting tool you could also just remove all but one insert from a facemill and adjust your feed rate accordingly.

Absolutely. Great advice, fly cutting is seriously underrated now the focus is on High Speed Machining (at least it was barely ever used/mentioned where I worked with a mix of CNC & manual).
@bluechevycummins57382 жыл бұрын
@@asylumental the cutting bit he’s using has multiple cutting teeth. Removing all the teeth except one will eliminate the vibrations causing it to cut cleaner and less noisy and less sketchy. Once you start getting chatter that means the parts are vibrating and can work clamps loose and send a bit or part flying.
@dylanjones12862 жыл бұрын
@@bluechevycummins5738 well the main thing chatter is a no go for is because the chatter means the bit isn't cutting symmetrically, it's over boring or egg shaping the material.

A tidbit of info on the coolant temp sensors that may help in the future. GM used the same resistance scale on their temps sensors on all efi engines since the 80s, and everything prior to the ls is 3/8" npt thread. you can use either sensor and the ecm/dash wont know the difference. there is even a 1/8 npt version in the 90s saturns that can work
@jasonmajere21652 жыл бұрын
Have you seen the banks power sensors and sensor monitors. They seem pretty sweet and banks has a lot of experience with forced induction. Things like how efficient your turbo is, how much power the turbo adds how much the power intercooler adds. Crazy stuff. Killing a duramax series really highlights it.

One thing you might want to think about for your CNC is clear coolant, that would make it easier for you to film. Blaser Swiss blue Synergy 735 is one of those and I've heard great things about it. But that's something when your current coolant reserves are used up.

A tip for flatness, use an endmill and have a bunch of passes, the small diameter helps reduce machine tram error making your surface flatter than with a big face mill. Also a small surface plate with some backside sticky sandpaper works great for a quick finish.
@Tom-xn7zc2 жыл бұрын
Great content once again, thank you! Solution for the chatter when milling the flange: Single point flycutter! Do some research on it, buy one or make one yourself, test it on some scrap pieces and you'll regret not using one before. The finish you can get with it is absolutely 💯. A lathe would also be a great investment for the shop. Making bungs would become 10x easier even when you don't have the correct taps and dies. Single point cutting inside and outside threads is super easy and quick with a lathe. And then you could invest in some basic cheap metric and dies for cleaning up slightly damaged or fouled threads on bungs that are already welded in place.

That power steering pump is actually perfect for the Mazda theme, even though it's a Corvette haha. The Mazda 3 and Volvo C30/S40/V50/C70 all shared some parts with the Focus as they were built on the same platform. Volvo and Mazda both used this FoMoCo power steering pump, whereas Ford didn't as they deemed it was too weak.

I love how you understand how things work. I cant tell you how many people dont get that turbos work on the thermal dynamics of using the dense hot exhaust stream leaving the exhaust port. The cloto the port the better(in simple terms) cant tell you how many arguments I've had with people thinking remote mounted turbos are just as effective as ones mounted close to the exhaust port... Rookie's.... keep it up boss, you're going to have millions of people referencing your work in the future...

You need a fly cutter for stuff like that. Wheels (regardless of size) are for rigid cuts. Single point fly cutter for anything that's flapping in the breeze. ALSO, you need an adjustable jack set, would've been perfect to stack under the pipes when you made the cut, to reduce, somewhat, all that chatter.
