This reminds me and brings rememberance of being an 'earnest, bearded young man' at the Greyhound in 1980, standing in front of Bob Fripp with the League of Gentlemen, while his fingers danced and he exhorted us to do likewise, as they were a dance band. 🕺💃

The five primary forms for practicing: 1. Calisthenics. Strength training in left and right hands and learning how they work together. 2. Fingerboard knowledge. 3. Repertoire. The music you are going to play onstage. 4. Ear training, and finally (many a musician forget this) 5. Play. Have fun. Extemporize. Improvise.

Interesting what you say about left hand weakness. This is the bane of drummers too. At 70 i have taken up drumming. I work quite a bit on hand strength. Recently i was delighted to discover the benefits of stick twirling- it’s great for limbering up your hands and arms and building stength. So be a show off in your own practice space and see if this works. Also, I loved your opal cuff links.

I've struggled with picking technique for, literally, 50 years. However, watching this video at the 7:00 mark, I noticed that Mr. Fripp keeps his wrist pretty rigid and picks more or less from the elbow. Intuitively, this would seem to be difficult to control. However, I tried it a couple of days ago, and just the opposite is true. I would say that my picking technique has improved about 100% just by trying to emulate what I see in this video. I'm cross-picking with ease, finding any string confidently and at will, and picking scales and arpeggios faster and more accurately than ever before. Thank you, Robert Fripp!

I follow Adrian Belew also and wow, is he active. It's amazing, considering the difference in presentation, that these two did so well together in the same band. I suspect it's mostly because Adrian can play with anyone. But I have liked both guitarists for decades.

Been listening these days again after plenty of years first four albums and rediscovered that Robert used so much acoustic guitars on these four. Played incredibly well as usual these guitars sounds amazingly beautiful within a song arrangements. What a pitty that after that period Robert have'nt used them any more .... .

....am I missing something here, meaning is there a tour in the works that I am unaware of ?? If I have missed out, may I please be forgiven as no I have not crawled out from a rock but I have just put down my newly acquired Obation 1867 and I've been experimenting with the NST but with a twist, having the E tuned at a third, not a fifth and having the G tuned a fifth above the previous string, so the fingering is a little different on the thinist two strings. This I can assure you is temporary, until my proper string set gauges arrive. So, this.... your book Guitar Craft, what a way to begin year 58 on March 18th !! Thank you Robert for providing me the insight to really learn to properly appreciate music both as a listener and performer.
