Robert Downey, Jr. became Charlie Chaplin. Honestly, I wish won the Academy Award for Chaplin. I know Pacino won for Scent of a Woman, but that was more due to him not having an Academy Award at that point after so many nominations. Denzel Washington was great in Malcolm X as was Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven, but Downey’s performance as Charlie Chaplin just sticks with me more than the other nominees.

Yeah just watched 'Chaplin' again and Downey Jr should have won. It's his best performance imo and it really sticks in the mind long afterwards. He did win a BAFTA for it, but really he should have won every acting award going for it!

Agreed! He's an incredible actor, he always has been, but in Chaplin, he was phenomenal! Just genius! He really became Charlie Chaplin! I think Charlie would have loved the movie, and been very honored. Robert should have won the Oscar, no question.

I agree. I always felt RDJ was sort of robbed of the Oscar for Chaplin.

You can tell he really took Chaplin seriously just by the interviews around it because it feels like they’re the only ones where he’s not completely stoned in this era
