The book sounds like the best yet, and is the size of a house brick. Edit: I’ve finished the book. It’s the best in the series by far. Each witness and suspect stands out alone as JK’s strength is amazing at character’s and their individual voices. I never forgot the name of any of the many suspects and had them ingrained in my head. Expertly researched too; I felt like I was reading a phd with the amount of effort JK went into researching, and the minute details that accumulated throughout. There was so much misdirection that I was completely hoodwinked as to the ending. By the end I was gliding through each page and couldn’t stop to eat because I was so engrossed. For anyone who liked Voldemort’s backstory in the HP books, JK has done a lot of research on serial killers and psychopaths and the important subject matter is completely trusted in her hands. JK also touches on issues that women face such as misogyny in the workplace and subtle sexism that gets overlooked and accepted in society. I don’t really care much for will they/won’t they, love story plots but I found it pleasant subplot this time around. Every clue was solved at the end and I gave a sigh of completeness and relief with the feeling that the mystery was not just solved, but entertaining and fascinating along the way and I was revelling in sitting back and having such a lengthy read more than pay off. If you want to be throughly entertained and engrossed and are looking for a switch off, buy this book, sit down with a cup of tea and go for it. You won’t regret it.

I have listened to the audiobook three times now and I am waiting quite impatiently for the next installment in the series. Also I must say that J.K. Rowling can write multiple genres perfectly but the performers that read her books for the audiobook versions are also perfect at their job too! Jim Dale that reads the entire Harry Potter series and Robert Glennister that reads the Strike series are the best! Looking forward to more from J.K. Rowling whether it be Strike and Robin solving the next case or another trip into the Wizarding World!

This is a great interview. I got here after I read the book, and after I have seen all of the series. I agree that the casting of the shows is just excellent. I really hope that the series continue, and that we get more. Six episodes would do so much. Eight even better. The books would clearly be worth it. The actors have so much to offer. The Strike in my head is a lot heavier, a lot les refined. Robin, however, is only taller. Anyway, thanks.

How so? Her two latest books went straight to No. 1 last year, and Stephen Fry has done a great job narrating the Ickabog. I find it interesting that none of the questions askes about how upset the Trans Community was by this book, especially given the hurtful statements she's made about Trans Women just before the book was published. A question that should have been asked is this: We've seen many Trans women or gender non-conforming characters made into villians before; such as Norman Bates, Buffalo Bill, and so on; why did you decide to use an outdated idea that's been done many times before and brings negative implications for those who don't or who are unwilling to understand the Trans Community? I would have asked that.
