Robert's chord progression is so colorful and rich. You can't help follow his harmonic melodic feeling and expression. He plays from the depths of his soul. "He is a talented arranger. And Derrick Hodge knows how to fill in the right areas, on the acoustic bass viola. Awesome. "👌👌👌👌😊

The way he phrases the chorus' melody, with the slight "clanging bells" vibe, reminded me of Ethan Iverson's essay (on his 'Do the Math' blog) called "Red's Bells". Among the things that Iverson discusses in that piece is the sonic link between bells, African music, and jazz pianists like Red Garland and, a little later, McCoy Tyner.

Robert Glasper’s take on this classic is just unreal! The harmonic depth and chord voicings here are insane, bringing out the song's soul in such a unique way. That chord at 1:53? Kills me every time! Plus, Derrick Hodge’s bass fills add just the right touch-percussive and melodic all at once. Together, they create a sound so rich it’s hard to believe it's just two instruments. This version’s got all the right vibes and a touch of mischief. Kurt would’ve totally been on board!
