I was a pro drummer in Miami in the 70-80's my best friend was a black dude popcorn amazing bass player. The thing was the black vibe for funk and sexy drum beats. It was a lot of work but once you got the vibe the rest was a piece of cake. It was that critical in order to groove and get the great gigs.
@friesiamans19662 жыл бұрын
@@yellowquantum4240 wow, way cool, man! i also started playing drums in the early 70s, we had a bluesrock trio with a very skilled guitarist who played kind of gallagher/winter style - he also introduced us (my brother and me) to the original blues daddies like robert johnson, sonny terry, howlin wolf and others... but things changed and we became a more jazrock oriented band with a lot of improvisation - then came a severe cut and we went straight into punkrock, new wave and new ska - in 1978 i saw bob marley live which literally turned my life upside down and i became a reggae musician - from the early 80s into the 2000s i was an active reggae musician in several bands and i helped building up a german reggae scene - it´s still there, small but lively! last year a friend of mine, one of germany´s leading reggae singers made a very fine rocksteady album - in case you´re interested you can find him under "sebastian sturm - dancing in the rain" (which is my fave song of that album)... i love diversity and i ´m more than happy to have youtube, my flying carpet, haha - without that i wouldn´t know about robert glasper - i found him via "august greene: npr tiny desk concert" - a very fine performance, highly recommended (btw. tiny desk is a very cool platform)... and we have several cool jazz channels like mistermister668 or blue born (who was in germany and speaks good german so we write in german) and they provide us with the classics - excellent work! otherwise i also love to listen to african music - we had a wave of african bands coming to germany during the 80s and early 90s and i saw countless of them, all brilliant performers, excellent singers, players, dancers - not one single fail - sometimes when i listen to the juju music of king sunny adé, the guitars are not too far from those of good old james brown... :-) btw. i experienced reggae drumming exactly like you tell me about funk drumming: a lot of work in the beginning, because it´s somehow like the opposite of rock drumming, but once you get the hang of it, it´s rolling on all by itself, haha...... hey there, thanx for sharing and keep going - love and greetings from germany
