This show is really outstanding and quite interesting on a number of fronts. Since Hunter spent most of 1983 playing with The Dinosaurs, he hadn’t performed solo in awhile. He must have missed it, as he seems really into it; uncharacteristically encouraging Q&A with the audience, not to mention whipping out three new songs found nowhere else that I’m aware of. He even addresses the state of the not-yet-abandoned “Alligator Moon” project. He was apparently still revising it at the time, which was news to me!
I thought this one merited a mix of the mono board feed already on the Beta Masters with Mark's Nak 700 masters. Its not perfect, as the board feed was nice and clear but recorded at extremely low levels, so it's a little hissy when amplified to normal listening levels. That aside, mixing the two master sources together is far more satisfying than either audio source alone. The mono board feed greatly increases the vocal and guitar definition, while the Nak 700’s give it much greater dynamic range, proves there was an audience (audience barely audible on the board feed, ha!) and provides a nice stereo listening experience. I hope you enjoy it! Alan Bershaw

Saw Robert Hunter at the New Daisy theater in Memphis, Tennessee in the spring of 2002 (April I think) It was a surreal experience. 50 year old men sitting in front of the stage like they were Kindergarteners at story time. So much respect and reverence and was such an intimate experience. After the show he shook people's hands from the stage and signed autographs, including his Box of Rain book that I had brought with me. I recorded the show from the balcony with a pair of AKG C1000's and a Sony D-8 analog deck. God I wish I knew where those tapes were...

Robert Hunter is one of my heroes. He has enriched my life unbelievably. Never met the man, but I love his work. Apparently he had roosters crowing at the break of dawn waking all the neighbors according to my old boss. He said in some interview the whole point of having a Harley is to be loud. God love him.

Crazy to think so many of these songs are what Game of Thrones/SOIAF thematically, if not directly from lyrics and names. It's sort of like half the dead set to a story really, to think George RR Martin was actually hanging out with these guys. Pretty wild

Was anyone ever at the Garcia/Hunter/J. Kahn show in the mid-80's at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C? In all these years I have never heard of a bootleg copy of the acoustic show.

He was sure a better song writer than he was a singer. His singing is downright embarrassing. Couple years later . . . I apologize! He was not far from the grave when he sang this.
