Robert Palmer did a concert back on Guam, back in the late 80's. In case you didn't know, Guam is a tiny, very tropical island that can be quite humid. He was wearing a double-breasted suit. After his first song, he was drenched!!! The crowd screamed, "Take off your suit!!!" He simply said, "A gentleman NEVER removes his coat!" And finished the concert. For some reason, that STILL sticks with me. So classy...

I saw Robert Palmer in a small venue in Cleveland back in the 90's. The entire audience knew Palmer made fun of people in the crowd that weren't dressed. The entire place was dressed to the 9's. He came on stage in what appeared to be a 10 thousand dollar suit. He had the lights turned on and said we were the best dressed audience he ever played for. A great show.

As others have said Robert Palmer was very dapper in his dress. But the director of the music video took some inspiration from a popular artist in the 80's called Patrick Nagel who drew and painted women very much like what is shown in the video. The video for Simply Irresistible follows the same artistic direction.

This song was supposed to be a duet with Chaka Kahn but her record company wouldn't let her do it. So she sang uncredited background vocals and did the arrangement for the song. You gotta check out Tina Turners live version of this song too. Also, he fronted a band called Power Station with members of Chic and Duran Duran. Check out that song Some Like it Hot. Sonically amazing song.

Good '80s pop rock. Palmer has always been a great dresser, very cool cat. Great jazzy, R&B singing style voice. Good looks for the ladies to look at He and David Bowie similar vibes. lol. Yuppie style (upper class/white collar). You guys are right. Yes like "Blurred Lines" from Robin Thicke video vibe. "Man! I feel like a Woman!" from Shania Twain video a decade later was kind of a troll response to this video (had men instead of the woman). RIP Palmer. Died so young in his 50s unexpectedly about 20 years ago, heart attack. Had a side band Power Station, too. Which was hard rock, funk rock, new wave, dance-rock. With Duran Duran (new wave, post-punk) members and teh drummer from Chic (Disco, funk, R&B band ). " Some Like It Hot" , "Go To Zero", "Get it On" were some good songs from them. Yall have done a reaction to "Simply Irresistible" a couple few months back with Berto, Similar video like this and also "I Didn't Mean to Turn You on" from Palmer is the same like this. He used eye candy in his videos for us young boys back then. LOL.

Mak Gilchrist recalled: "I was 21 and got the part on the strength of my modelling book. We were meant to look and 'act' like showroom mannequins. Director Terence Donovan got us tipsy on a bottle of wine but as we were having our make-up retouched, I lost balance on my heels and knocked the top of my guitar into the back of Robert's head, and his face then hit the microphone."

This was Robert Palmer's first video that took the aethetic of him in a dress shirt and tie surrounded by models. The video was so iconic, it's been done everywhere. If you see 'Love, Actually' there is a scene towards the end where the character of Billy Mack (played by Bill Nighy), an aging rock star is in a video very much like this for his Christmas single...but it's played for laughs. Robert Palmer was one of the few "clothes horses" of rock and roll. In the 80s, he was all about the Italian cut suits (especially Armani). He was one of the best dressed guys in rock. GQ cover guy several times. My favorite Robert Palmer song is "Every Kind Of People". Amazing song!

You have to react to The Power Station the superband formed by Robert Palmer, Tony Thompson (Chic), John and Andy Taylor (Duran Duran); you have to listen to Some Like It Hot and Get It On (Bang A Gong) (Lou Reed cover)

He made a trilogy of these videos; Simply Irresistible (the first), Addicted to Love and I Didn't Mean to Turn You On. Some of his classic early work is the bluesy Sneakin Sally through the alley.

Check out Robert Palmer when he was in the band Vinegar Joe with Elkie Brooks singing . That's a good Seventies band and she was easy on the eye. A song they sang called Proud to be a Honky Woman, from 1973 that's a good song !
