"Sailin' Shoes" has become your first taste of Little Feat. Anything off Waiting for Columbus would be a good follow-up - my forever favorite is "Fat Man in the Bathtub," and there's some real magic in "Dixie Chicken" and "Tripe Face Boogie" taken together.

The Rockpalast recording of Dixie Chicken and Tripe Face Boogie from the 'Columbus' tour is available on You Tube and is, to my mind, better than then the album version. That said, I have a soft spot for Columbus as I was at all the London gigs on the tour, some of which went on to the album.

Every time I hear Robert Palmer I say to myself I have to listen to more Robert Palmer! I always enjoy what I hear. He's a very talented vocalist most noticeable with his phrasing , intonation, and skatting around the rhythm of the songs. Plus it's Funk Rock! What's not to love? He sheds off charisma and in his videos he generally appears to be really enjoying himself. Also he looks like David Bowies brother which is cool because Robert Palmer is, if anything; is very cool. Nice one, Chod! A number of reactors have done Palmer's 80's hits but almost no one digs into this gem of a debut solo album. Look into the backing musicians on this LP - it's insane! Sailin' Shoes is originally by Little Feat - who you would probably love - and Lowell George from that group plays guitar here. Please check out their album "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" (maybe Oh, Atlanta?) and then the excellent live album "Waiting For Columbus" (maybe Spanish Moon? Dixie Chicken? Fat Man In The Bathtub? So many choices!) Great reaction - can't wait to hear some Feat!

On the album, these three flow seamlessly right into one another, I think the short blip between them you hear is from the youtube playlist or whatever source you use. The rest of the album is separate songs. But this "medley" are the first three songs from the very first album of his solo career, before his fame, so what a great start! Production on this album is leaner than his later stuff, so his raw talent really comes through. Glad you enjoyed!

My guess is Robert Palmer was a huge fan of Lowell George and Little Feat. This trilogy was all about Lowell. The singing, that funky guitar. All you need to do is a dive into Lowell and The Feats and then you'd see that this medley was Lowell driven. God Bless Lowell and Little Feat. Unbelievably unique sounds.

Thx my dear brother! Even though I'm a Casper the Friendly Ghost white trans chick I always loved the funk. Palmer worked with Nawleans musicians to do this record. Allen Touissant, a legend from Nawleans wrote Sneakin Sally. One can only thank him and groups like The Neville's and The Meters for inspiring his work. Keep up the good work. You may want to think about doing a vid on David Bowie's Young Americans. It was recorded with backing musicians like the TSOP musicians at Sigma Sound in Philly. The only track recorded in NYC was Fame, featuring none other than John Lennon, yes the Beatles guy. White boys can funk it up too!

Back when this was new, the local FM station had an Album Oriented Rock format. They used to always play these three songs together. Years later, I wanted some Robert Palmer music so I got a greatest hits album by Robert and this album for these three songs. I did not realize the Greatest Hits album had these three songs in order flowing into each other like the album. It was a good album, so no problem.

Lowell George. Little Feat song. I'm not a paying member but do yourself a favor and check out Little Feat's "Spanish Moon" from the Waiting for Columbus Live Album. It has everything you love. Are you beginning to understand why we boomers are so critical of today's music?

I knew you would like these songs played together. I agree with others that Little Feat (Waiting for Columbus Album) is something you should explore. I would suggest Dixie Chicken/Tripe Faced Boogie played through as one song just as you did with Robert Palmer here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4jRnHacm7Ofjac
