I so wish Robert would give his 80s songs more love. Ship Of Fools is such a beautiful song. That and Tie Dye On The Highway I love the most. Okay, Little By Little I love too. I know it's sometimes cool to knock the 80s but these are pretty good songs. Tall Cool One isn't a fave but I'd rather listen to that than the shit that passes for music these days. Again, Robert, sweetheart, give these songs the love they deserve, please🌹

I remember watching this on TV. It was so exciting! Plant gives one of his best performances ever here! His voice is perfect during this concert and the band is tight...but loose. They had A LOT of fun during their 1988 and 1990 world tours and it shows. Like in Tall Cool One, when Phil Johnstone says, "You jump, you stroll, you're hot and you tease...I should be so lucky...I should be so lucky in love!". The smile and unexpected laugh from Plant is priceless! So many inside jokes between them it's hard to keep up with all of them!

I never understood why SLOW DANCER by Robert wasnt bigger than it was. I remember when that came out and here in Boston and the airways were going crazy for it. and Also when Jason Bohnam come out with his band. These boys here were definitely Roberts best post-line . Chris- filled with energy, Doug is a beast in guitar. Charlie-mesmerizing bass. I met Charlie in Boston in the lobby of the 4 seasons hotel in Boston when He had just had his hair cut short. I wasnt even sure it was him.. and I learned this woman i noticed was Roberta daughter Carmen I learned this when I got home and I thought to myself, WTF I was so close to Robert and didnt even know it. lol

@junodonatus4906
@junodonatus4906 3 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminmoloy7163 I don't follow his solo career closely but I feel, from what I do know, that he did some great stuff. Manic Nirvana is just an amazing album full of great songs and original (great) guitar riffs. Fate of Nations is also a great album. I understand it's not a lot of people's "thing" to see him doing such mellow stuff especially having been the front man for Led Zeppelin. I know, for myself, that when Now and Zen came out I was a teen who loved Zeppelin and just wasn't ready to see him do that style.
@benjaminmoloy7163
@benjaminmoloy7163 3 жыл бұрын
@@junodonatus4906 I don't have problems with mellow music, but his solo albums (especially those you mentioned) are not good in my opinion. He tried to remain relevant but this made those albums dated very quickly. The Page collaboration was just terrible, that made me appritiate John Paul Jones more than before (his solo/producing works are basically flawless after Zeppelin). The only good period of Plant's solo career was the mid 00s with the Strange Sensation, that was a good effort to mix bluesy guitar music with trip hop and word music. After that his music is not as bad as in the 80s and 90s, but it's pretty uninteresting.
@junodonatus4906
@junodonatus4906 3 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminmoloy7163 It's interesting how some people such as Phil Collins or Rod Stewart thrive as solo artists. It's almost as though Page and Plant set the bar way too high with Led Zeppelin. Relevant or not I still have great memories of listening to Outrider or Roberts solo stuff that I mentioned above. As an example from one of their solo albums, Robert Plant's song "I believe" is pretty much flawless. I could seriously see myself listening to that song sitting on the beach watching the sun glistening off the water.... and it would be perfect for that moment. On that album it didn't seem like he was trying to do anything and that he was just being himself in expressing where he was at that point in his life. I am more wary of his middle eastern type stuff because I feel like if somebody is going to listen to that they might as well listen to authentic ethnic music. For me his particular voice just does not fit with Moroccan type instruments and soloing. I am, btw, a huge fan of world music such as Loreena McKennitt.

If Bonham never passed and Zeppelin never dissolved all together, after hearing the way Robert and John Paul Jones composed most of the songs on their last album in through the outdoor.. I bet Led Zeppelin in the 1980s would've went in the direction musically that Roberts solo career went. More synthesizers, experimentation, commercially accessible music direction. Zep was a huge successful band, but on a commercial level they had yet to break through that barrier. They were more of a word of mouth, live band. With the birth of mtv and music videos I can only imagine where they would've went and Roberts solo career is a glimpse of what could've been for led zeppelin. Robert Plants solo career and albums he released in the 80s are absolutely amazing.

I had just met Robert two months before this night in Chicago at a Blues club on Halsted St. The girl I was with was tall and beautiful, and Robert had eyes on her. The thing was, we were plutonic friends, so I was like , go chat him up. She talked to him a second, and he looked over at me and waved me over. HA! He introduced himself to me and bought me a drink, and said my friend was beautiful and why I wasn't married to her! But what he really wanted to know , wherevwas a better blues club around, cause the band playing at that one that night was horrible. He couldn't of been that interested in her, cause he split as soon as he finished his drink. We sent him on his way!

Fantastic Job...on a difficult song. And its the first in the set...not easy (the mix is never quite "there" on the first song).
