What kind of tax reform? There is "no law" that requires you to "withhold, self assess, calculate, file a return or PAY an income tax." Income is and always has been "profit or gain" and those who work for wages, do not realise a profit or gain....and this is detailed in title 26....while the fact that you are not required to withhold is specifically explained in 26 CFR 31.3402 p-1...see links and ask yourself why the "midget" doesn't seem to know or won't tell you the TRUTH.....oh and while you are at it, ask yourself, if we are or ever were "a democracy", how do the "rich" seem to have no problems getting what they want? Are they the majority.....because in a democracy the majority wins. So your choice here is that Reich is either lying or stupid, and whichever one you pick, you are stupid for listening and believing. BTW Watch Reich v Hedges pre-election debate.....and watch him defend evil....btw FDR saved "capitalism" too.....by selling you to the Federal Reserve Bank. www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/26/31.3402%28p%29-1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/onS0pGl5pK2Nes0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmPCnp6IeZZpkMU kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKGwhHpnf6yantU and kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4i9YmOYpbugppI We now return you to your regular programming.......

Nick B so other than your mind reading B.S. and your revisionist history and your logical fallacy, did you have something "intelligent" to offer......evidence would be nice also, and then of course you have the present reality, where you can't find a job that pays a living wage and the benefit that you only have to work thirty two hours a week if you do. FDR's concession to the "unions" in the Wagner Act were undone by Taft Hartley in 1947.....Vetoed by Truman......and over-ridden with the help of democrats. When the democrats regained control of both houses, they did not undue what they had done and since they have enjoyed this advantage many times until 1994, they could not be bothered to correct this. So, whatever "democracy" you might be referring to.....it has nothing to do with "government"....and the last time I checked a FACT was a FACT...and not something that required a political label. BTW union membership has been in decline ever since. (*) FDR made a speech regarding "war profits" assuring they would not happen. War profiteering in WWII made that of WWI look like a joke. Union membership peaked in 1945 an Taft Hartley restricting Unions was passed over a presidential veto, and has been in continual decline since 1954. "As a percent of nonagricultural employment, union membership peaked at 35.4% in 1945. As a percent of wage and salary employment and a percent of total employment, union membership peaked in 1954 at 34.8% and 28.3%, respectively. In 2003, 12.4% of wage and salary workers, 12.1% of nonagricultural workers, and 11.5% of all employed workers were union members. " digitalcommons.ilr.cornell.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1176&context=key_workplace Most of the links above and the post concerns "the law of the land".....and the first one, contradicts what most of the "working public" assumes is "the law" ( as do most employers ).....that filing a w-4 is a "requirement" to being employed. It is in 'english" and fairly simple to understand, even though you have already demonstrated that you see ( or hear ) things, that have not been said. BTW if you don't file a w-4, you don't get a W-2....and the IRS ( who doesn't care about the law and which the rest of the links demonstrate ) has absolutely zero information that they can use to defraud you. ( nor any that they can share with state and local governments.) So, the midget is still ignorant or a liar, and you are a "willfully ignorant, functional illiterate".....but as a solution....not taxing wages as income, benefits both employees and small businesses.....and since it happens to be THE LAW, why not OBEY IT? P.S. This is how the first guy to save capitalism did it..... docs.google.com/document/d/165i0dicryJ_KtzCr6agR6O6v4XaRM2EDr6f1WbmU3Fg/edit?hl=en But don't let the "facts" interrupt your "fantasy".....the midget never has and he probably never will.

The problem with "willfully ignorant, functional illiterates" is that they are "functional illiterates".....who said anything about gold and silver.....the constitution requires it, changing the constitution requires an amendment, FDR discarded the constitution, so not only do you not live in a democracy, you also don't live in a constitutional republic. Also the amount of gold and silver is irrelevant, since whatever amount there is, can always be adjusted to reflect the amount of "dollars".....these are called "coinage acts" and you had one in the sixties.....so there is an official "legal tender" price for the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins, and for the Silver Dollar none of which reflects their value in terms of the debt instrument known as the Federal Reserve Note. And you're right, you didn't say anything about the Wagner Act.....you said "These are things the laborers rose up and demanded, democratically, and won." Now all you have to do is document, the means by which they won, that "secured" those things. What "legalized" the process of "collective bargaining" for unions? And then after you do that, you can tell us, what altered those requirements? Don't you just hate FACTS. BTW...since all "current economic theory" is unsustainable, it doesn't matter which system you attempt to use, they will all "fail"....capitalism will just do it quicker. Of course all this will get easier when you learn to read and then actually study, all those things you think you know, and you can correct your "willfully ignorant, functional illiteracy." Of course the best part about watching people afflicted with your condition, is they are too stupid to recognise how stupid they are, and too stupid to stop talking.....and since all "current economic theory" is unsustainable.....your labels are as stupid as your non factual "twits".

Mr. Robert's presentation is particularly strong and well-reasoned this time b/c he is speaking about taxation, a subject that he has researched for quite a while. Although this guy can go pretty in-depth, he sticks to a "bullet point" approach that really helps to keep his main ideas about the GOP tax plan clear and focused. And just in time for for Thanksgiving Day dinner conversation.

Everyone should pay attention to this kind of patriotism, which is actual patriotism and has very little to do with flag pins on lapels. This is our country. What do we believe in that unites us? What do we owe the country as citizens and what do the rest of the wealthiest owe to the country?

Professor Reich, you made an interesting point that most of the top beneficiaries of this proposed tax cut have more wealth than they know what to do with. Is it wealth for wealth's sake, defensive maneuvering to prevent something,, or is there some longer end-game that is the ultimate goal? What is the world that moneyed interests want to create? The image is of the Chinese ant heap.
@azolioeroach3253
@azolioeroach3253 7 жыл бұрын
Xandrosi The reason is that there is a philosophy among the wealthy, which started around the time when FDR was being called a "class traitor" for working to end the phenomenon we now call "The Great Depression". That philosophy is that what is bad for others is good for them and vice versa. It is based on the belief that everyone who is not them is either murderously covetous of them, or too weak and/or stupid to be. The idea of paying any taxes at all is offensive to them since by the aforementioned "reasoning", the proceeds go absolutely against their OWN interests in favor of strengthening those people and things that they believe absolutely oppose them. To read more, look up Richard Nixon and his appointment of a Supreme Court Justice named Powell.
@Xandrosi
@Xandrosi 7 жыл бұрын
Azolio, it's the contrast between being a rich person in a well-educated cultured affluent society and being at the top of a dung heap Third World cesspool. I don't doubt that the craven assessment that you've suggested is the tactical game-plan. What I find fascinating is that tyranny by the poor (e.g., Brazil) is ultimately the same as tyranny by the rich, though arguably both are tyranny by rich. It's just that Brazil is a tad more corrupt.
@grendelum
@grendelum 7 жыл бұрын
Xandrosi - their goal is to lower the tax income of the government to the point where things like social security and Medicare and Medicaid can no longer be funded... at that point, watch for them to privatize these institutions... that's one of their main goals.

I love how the democrats say they want to protect the little guy but then they don't think about how their policies end up hurting the little guy. The estate tax, for example, they say prevents wealthy families from passing on a dynasty. Well, look at the typical family farm. It takes lots of land, lots of tractors etc to turn even a small profit to support a family. You have a couple that own the farm, they have 3 married adult children, so, They have 8 adults in the family & 6 or 8 children among them. That farm is, technically, worth several million dollars but they have a small profit margin. This isn't a dynasty, this is an extended family competing with the large corporate farms. When they are hit with an estate tax, they are put in an impossible situation. They can't pass the family farm on to their children in a form that will continue to turn a profit. They end up losing the family farm & it ends up being purchased by a corporate farm. Any family owned business that requires lots of assets, equipment, buildings etc, end up in this kind of scenario. You are willing to hurt millions of families because you are afraid a few wealthy people may pass on millions to a few children that will then lead a life of luxury without working. That is a motivation driven by pure jealousy. Willing to hurt many so a handful won't get to much that they didn't work for. Look at the corporate tax. A corporation is a group of people working together. Profits from a corporation go to employees & investors. Most investors are people that have part of their retirement account invested, or people that simply purchased shares. Employees make a commission or get regular pay. When you cut it down to its lowest common denominator, a corporation is a bunch of people organizing & working together. They all get a small % for their pay. That's where the tax should get paid. Those employees that make lots from the corporation pay tax based on how much they make. Those that make little, pay little. "The Corporation" is not some wealthy entity hoarding money. All money gets reinvested or paid out to employees/investors. If you tax the corporation, you are, essentially, charging the people to organize a corporation. The democrats think, oh my god, the CEO got paid to much. Then they want to tax a corporation without ever thinking about HOW a corporation really works. They don't really think what a corporation really is or how it works but we can't have some greedy entity getting to big a share of the pie. That's why I am no longer a democrat.

Why do you talk about the government's debt and deficit in those terms when that debt and deficit is the non government surplus? The government's deficits are the private sector's savings, and those deficits are required to sustain economic growth in the face of trade deficits and private sector savings. You're using the wrong approach, based on a commodity-based money system, not the sovereign fiat money system we actually have. Holding to that approach is self defeating. It has resulted in the current money famine in America. Ask Stephanie Kelton.

I generally like Reich, but I don't understand why he wants to save Capitalism. Maybe he explains in his book which I haven't read. He doesn't really answer the question about democracy @18:00. He just says that we need to make sure that everyone in our economic system has a voice. But in Capitalism, by its very nature and structure, only the top have a voice. Corporations are not democracies, they are dictatorships.

Government is for sale. Lawmakers will make laws to the advantage of those who pay them. It is ever thus and it matters not what party wins what election. People run for election to be the lawmaker to have something to sell. It matters not what party wins. This video is pretending that there is a good party and a bad party, just stupid, lawmaking is for sale. The only two ways politicians get money is from taxes and “donations”; it matters not what party wins, the for sale sign and the begging cup will be put out.
