The idea of Blackfires is so funny to me because they’re still Targaryen’s. Daemon is literally completely genetically a Targaryen, his parents followed the tradition of having children with their relatives. This war isn’t about two different groups of people, it’s about the Targaryen’s eating themselves alive again, and the fact that the Golden Company acts like they’re not just Targaryen’s is ridiculously funny
@jacobwhitman57018 ай бұрын
It’s the exact same issue that was presented by the dance of the dragons. Both parties have an entirely legitimate claim: are we following the historical mandate of the eldest son becoming ruler, or the chosen heir via the father’s decree? Both resulted in the former, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the other party is wrong.

This plot line in the books, believe it or not, was very controversial. Many thought it was pointless and questioned why GRRM is bringing in a whole new claimant to the throne. When he was cut from Season 5 it was regarded as a good call. I was always one of those that defended Young Griff. And then Season 8 happened, and everybody realised "Oh, I guess Griff is more important to the story then we thought" there was a post in the subreddit basically saying that removing Young Griff is the source for Dany's plotline falling apart. Turns out the incredibly meticulous author has an intent of grave importance for a character that was foreshadowed several books ago lol. To toot my own horn a little, it was a great hit of vindication. Better than heroin.

I and MANY others think that Varys the Spider is a secret Blackfyre. He shaves his head to not give his platinum hair away. "Varys" sounds like a Targaryen name. Varys is POSSIBLY Shira Seastars son. Just one thing I thought was unclear. It is said in the books that Bloodraven's intentionally targeted the twin sons of Daemon BlackFire. Because he knew the Daemon would not abandon his children. And that's what happened, after Bloodraven's and his archers had killed his children, Daemon refused to let go of the bodies, which made it easy for Bloodraven's to kill him with his archers. Bloodraven was also the last wielder of the darksister sword. When Brann finds him in the cave, if I'm not mistaken, he also finds the sword. Another thing the series ruined...

From what you're describing Young Griff is obviously a reference to Henry Tudor who became Henry VII by winning the Wars of the Roses. His mother was distantly related to the King just like how Griff likely comes from the female line. Henry VII became king after living in exile his entire life when he won one battle with the unpopular Richard III just like how Griff is positioned to gain ground in Westeros fairly easily. When Danyaerys burns down Kings Landing I guess it'll almost be like she's interrupting the natural flow of history by killing the person who ultimately won the Wars of the Roses. Which will lead to Brans position as the end of history kind of king.

Personally I like the idea that in fact in a cruel twist of fate Dany is the mummers dragon, that her heritage is a lie and she doesn't realise until the last minute. As targeryan dreams usually lead to their downfall as they misrepresent the information to fuel false ambition. The term 'slayer of lies' could also have a double meaning which I've not heard anyone else mention thus far. Yes it could refer to someone who slays a liar. But it could also refer to a liar known to kill, that her slaying is based on lies. It seems to me like that could be a more convincing and shocking twist which would reframe the characters actions up to that point in a very fascinating way.

I have to admit, I'm kind of hoping for a Jon/Griff/Danaerys dynamic (eg. Star Wars - Luke/Han/Leia). It would also tie into an inversion of the Targaryen three-headed dragon. And looking at real history, there was a real incident at the beginning of Henry VII's reign where a boy called Lambert Simnel was trained by an Irish priest called Father Symonds to believe he was the Earl of Warwick (a rival claimant with a stronger lineage). Of course he wasn't, but his charisma won him a small army from some minor lords and dissatisfied peasants. Unfortunately, this ragged group was no match for Henry's professional army. But after defeating this threat to his rule, instead of executing Lambert and his supporters, Henry invited them to dine with him. At the banquet, the lords were astonished to discover Simnel was serving them! But this was not humiliation - Henry had given him a full-time job in his household, where he did very well for himself (he was in recorded as having risen to the rank of Royal Falconer). This rare show of mercy led Henry VII to be called 'The Solomon of English Kings', & Lambert's surname is where we get 'Simnel Cake' from (apparently of his own invention, a spicy fruit cake served at Easter topped with 11 marzipan balls [to represent the 11 faithful disciples])

If Daemon is the brother that BR loved and if R+L=J is book canon as well and if fAegon is a Blackfyre, Jon and Griff could have a friendship like the one that Brynden and Daemon might have had(and I need to see them leading the 6th Blackfyre Rebellion/ 2nd Hour of the Wolf)!

The fact that all of this is just background lore and took place decades before the main series is just staggering. I still struggle to comprehend how one man - Martin - can be responsible for all of this.

Amazing analysis! Though I’ve always felt that Varys and Mopatis had intended on Viserys’ Dothraki army being the Mummers Dragon for Aegon. Jorah even said that Robert would never sit behind a stone wall and wait out foreign invaders; if he died in battle and Aegon arrived to destroy the invaders he would be fast tracked to a secure throne

That, sir, is the most understandable and clear video about the Blackfyre Rebellions I've seen, compare to other ones on KZbin that are very theoric and not precise at all And the Blackfyre era is absolutely amazing, they should do series on it, after House of the Dragon because it's an even more interesting period, with less dragons but more plots and battles, that are way more interesting to me. And come one, Brynden Rivers only by himself is already worth a TV series, his life is just a whole show just by itself and he had the most incredible journey in the history of Westeros I believe, probably in the top 3 most powerfuls "humans" in the history of this universe, with all his skills, his knowledge and longevity, and most people don't even know this character, what a shame. Please HBO, make a Blackfyre sequel.

Loved the video, liked the ending. During your piece about "something for the heroes to fight" and what it all means, I do quite like the idea that Dany would spare the life of Aegon or not reveal his secret like you claim, partially because that would leave Dragonstone empty for her. Ultimately her struggle has never been about the throne, but about her home with the red door, so I like that your version of the ending could see her returning there.

I think that, in the end, If the truth is revealed, they could make peace with each other, ending the long-time rivalry between the Black and Red Dragons! (Like, I don't know, maybe she could marry him to bring peace to the conflict between Targaryens and Blackfyres)

Shiera Seastar chooses Bryndon Rivers, over "Bittersteel," as her lover. This helps to trigger the Blackfyre Rebellions, and the century-or-so of bloodshed that ultimately leads to the fall of House Targaryen. Bloodraven clearly spends most of his life, before being banished to the wall, trying to fight this rebellion. By any means necessary. And Shiera Seastar seems to support this stance, in her own way... This is part of a major reason why I think that Quaithe is actually Shiera Seastar. Because while Bloodraven is trying to cultivate Bran Stark and Jon Snow, it makes all sorts of sense for Quaithe (or Bloodraven's former girlfriend, Shiera Seastar) to be cultivating Danaerys Targaryen, to defeat the last Blackfyre pretender (She specifically tells Dany "Beware the Mummer's Dragon" at one point, in the books), and retake the throne, while also preparing Westeros for the coming Wights. It's all one gigantic conspiracy, by the former lovers, from opposite ends of the world (Bloodraven, from beyond the Wall; Quaithe, from the Shadowlands) to overcome the approaching apocalypse, not just of Westeros, but of the entire world! And also to finally defeat the Blackfyres, and put a proper Targaryen heir on the Iron Throne. If Bloodraven, as we know for certain, is Bryndon Rivers, then it only makes sense that his counterpart, Quaithe, would be his former "soulmate," Shiera Seastar. They serve different Gods, but seemingly have the same goal, from opposite sides. Finally... At no point is Shiera Seastar pronounced "dead," in the storyline of Ice and Fire, either by GRRM, or by any of the in-story characters. She has a proven history of "bathing in blood," as some sort of ritual to preserve her youth (immortality, perhaps??). The first rule of fiction is this: "If a character is not pronounced dead, by the author, or the narrative, then he/she is not dead. Period. Shiera Seastar is, by this rule, not dead. So where can she be? Why is Quaithe so mysteriously attached to guiding Danaerys, through dreams, toward the Iron Throne? And isn't it just a little bit suspicious that she uses "dream prophecies" to push Dany onward, in a similar fashion that Bloodraven uses them to push Jon Snow, and Bran, forward?? Bloodraven and Seastar are still working as one... to save the entire world from death. You heard it here, first!

People sympathize with Jon Snow a little too much. While catelyn may have given him shit back in winterfell but he did have a full family around him. He's a little too touchy about things. Let's compare the royal growing up of Jon in winterfell to Pisswater bend growing up of Gendry and other hundreds of nameless bastards throughout the realm he was much better off. Also it is well known that bastards in south get much more shit from their family than bastards in North. I don't even think he deserves the sort of value he's given.

Perfect Theory, that sounds completely reasonable! And I can't thank Bloodraven and Shiera enough, as a Targaryen supporter, for saving the House and also the Westeros.

14:52 While yes, the Blackfire Rebellion could've been stopped had Daemon at least been imprisoned, I still feel that killing Aenys and Haegon Blackfire (especially Aenys) was a bit much. Haegon maybe, since he had just surrendered and maybe the idea of rebellion was still heavy in his mind, but he killed Aenys after essentially betraying him by breaking his promise, which is enough to incite rebellious thoughts in others.

The “point” of Young Griff vs Danaerys may be that it wakes her up to how her house, and the Valyrians before them, fell … through not being united. Then she realises she can’t unite the kingdom and summons the great houses to decide “what unites people” like the final episode. Just an idea 🤔

After seeing your break down of all this and piecing together the information from the books, It actually makes me more angry at the TV show for sucking so bad. I am so excited for the books to be finished to see how GRRM meant it all to end. There are so freaking many story lines left out of the show that I can't wait to see how they are actually supposed to work out. I can almost 99% guarentee you are correct about the BlackFyre thing. It will be interesting how this will all play out in the books with Denarys, Aemon BlackFyre and Aemon Targareyan (Jon Snow). Plus there is all the Tyrion possibly being a secret Tragareyon as well. I am so excited for it all.
