Proper grip pressures on a pistol during recoil......

I believe one of the big problems with this is a lot of people don’t have a place where they can actually practice shooting at speed. Many gun ranges do not allow it🤷🏼♂️

One work around is to load with only 1 round and then fire a rapid pair. The 2nd shot is dry so the range can't complain, but you get to see how you return the sight under recoil and the quality of your trigger pull on the second "shot." Just be sure to use a timer and force yourself to pull the trigger fast both times. It's not a perfect solution, but could be very helpful for those that have to train within those constraints.

I cannot agree more on this. It is easy to learn or teach the form of an action (shooting, tennis, etc), but it is nearly impossible to describe the "feeling".

I suck, but I blame my local range and their two second rule. I just have to hope the bad guy goes to the same range i do.

I hate that rule, lol. Do you need/want some advice/suggestions or were you just making a joke?

I know you dont read this stuff but being older I have a problem keeping the dot steady. Just for fun, I tried gripping the gun really hard with my strong hand. Actually super hard without affecting my trigger finger. What a difference. Gun tracks better, dot never leaves the sight window. I think we are so much told things like 60/40 weak hand heavy. Not for me. I grab that gun Hard out of the holster and just bull grip the thing. So far amazing results! Thanks for the vids and one day soon I will call and set up a few days of one on one training. Bill

I've heard an operator explaining that he thinks a gun should be held with the strength you'd use if somebody was trying to get it away from you
@charlesreeves34268 ай бұрын
Its a little more complex than that. Its about doing things consistently with your grip that maximizes leverage and traction without building a lot of tension in your muscles. Tension is your enemy when your goal is a harmonious balance between speed and accuracy. Also, not all "operators" are world class shooters. Just saying. @@decespugliatorenucleare3780

The video explained the importance of grip pressure, but didn’t explain what is proper grip pressure, as the title of the video promised.
@stillwill66752 жыл бұрын
I need to go back and see if you have covered the nuances of pressure - such as from the particular fingers. I may not be articulating that well enough, and it may be that it's somewhat particular to the individual person and pistol
@Kodreanu233 жыл бұрын
Sure, but what are the practical application of this idea? Where and how to pressure the gun to have better recoil control?
@keimolantio3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we all know that but how can we improve. That was missing from that videos
@bshadrick3 жыл бұрын
Try griping the gun as hard as you can with your strong hand too. I have and it really keeps the muzzle flip down. We are always told weak hand grip real hard, lock wrist which is true but I actually grip the gun harder now with my strong hand than weak and amazing results.

Exactly, what's the solution to the problem here?

Likely requires means of visualization to communicate that are more commonly seen in engineering and not easily accessible to a professional shooter without a ton of computer skills - like a slow motion video of a wire mesh hand with a full grip starting from high-ready running through a double-tap or string of shots, shaded/overlayed with an RGB gradient that maps to the relative pressure one should apply (maybe according to percentage values of how much pressure to apply compared to the maximum pressure you're capable of).

also a reason why people cant shoot fast and accurately is it is almost impossible to practice unless you own your own land. Most or all ranges prohibit any sort of shots quicker that 1 second.

So what is the point?
@lordw96093 жыл бұрын
Interesting thought, but what's the solution to the problem here? If one has to bring that sight right back, what are the steps to get there? Need to have solutions in here too

The issue is maintaining consistent grip pressures "at speed." For example, if the sights moved to the left of your target when it returns--you did that. Your firing hand (if right handed) likely tensed up and changed pressures pushing the gun off target under the recoil or your subconscious "flinch" response caused your hand to push it over. Basically, if your grip pressures on the gun don't change while rapid firing then the sights will continue to settle in the same place each shot. There is very little effort required to return the gun from recoil. You have to practice "at speed" like he was suggesting and then pay very close attention to the feel of the gun in your hands under recoil and what is happening as you shoot. Figure out where you are making mistakes and try to correct them. It is much easier with a red dot to track the path that the dot takes during recoil and to see if it is landing back in the same spot each time. It is a little complicated because things are a little different for each shooter too, but I hope this helps. Practicing Bill drills, this IDPA 5x5 classifier, mag dumps, or the doubles drill (see Ben Stoeger for a good explanation) is a great place to start. I hope that helps.

@UltimateTViptv11 ай бұрын
He clearly said its not something you can show, or measure. In time and shooting at speed you learn how much pressure to apply to the gun to get the sites to move up and down. Then next is learning the timing, so the second your shot is on target you are pulling the trigger. the second third or forth shoot and soo on its not done lookin at the sight its all timing and speed.
