well, nearly all of them would've been younger, when people did send letters. Like Charles himself. It isn't that long ago. Besides, I could imagine my ex' father doing it. He's kind of snobbish, to put it in writing would be the way to go for him. He wouldn't want to speak to me, is the point, because I'm a commoner. He doesn't have a smart phone and doesn't really use the internet, at least not to communicate in any significant way.

Well, it was the girlfriend's father he said was from the 30s. If he was born 1946 and his then girlfriend was similar then her father would have been more likely to have been young in the 30s. But if he was way off that would just make it worse, that Robert was looking for a date to say 'long long ago' and he actually didn't go back nearly far enough.

@@NaughtyFox1331 I'm at least aware enough of Richard Ayoade's particular enthusiasm for geek culture, which would mean he could feasibly be expected to know and understand certain memes enough to use them for comic effect, and indeed has built much of his professional career creating a deliberately memeable on-screen persona. Funnily enough, it's not just stroppy teenagers sulkily vandalising bus stops when they should be doing something productive with their time who have heard of memes, in the same way everybody over 30 isn't necessarily some fusty pipe smoking Daily Mail reader who still thinks they're living in the 1970s. I mean, some of us are, clearly...
