It's interesting because from what I remember they really emphasised him being a lax trainer with not too much cardio. People were doing cardio in the house because they thought they were not getting enough. Don't remember them showing the "walking in or out an hour late" or them struggling to keep up with regular cardio. Of course, could just be manipulative editing on part of the producers, and I doubt Rob would lie over something like this, given how he has conducted himself during his career and his overall performance.
@billnoel18953 жыл бұрын
@@MrDioXIII he was more of an advisor than a trainer the first guy fought after being there a week and the first 4 fights were like at the same time editing made it look like 4 weeks they were supposed to be fight ready from day one for them to complain about cardio is foolish that is something you can do on your own way before showing up there for the show Robert Whitaker is a class act why would he lie fighting in a week and you want to complain you need to work on cardio of all things something you should be working on all year at this stage of the game that's just telling me you are lazy takes alot of hard work to get were Robert is

They were really undisciplined, even though it was edited a bit to look like it happened over time. Pretty much complained immediately about practicing basics but none of them had good basics. It was clear they just wanted to spar someone good and feel like the shine would rub off on them. One chick he tried to give some strategy and emphasized DON'T PULL GUARD, have a real entry plan and she pretty much did it immediately, then got beaten bloody. She survived and got a sub but it was super clear they had no interest in listening because she just shrugged it off. Only the one heavyweight (Juan Espino I think?) took any of it seriously and he did well.

I watched the entire season and it is pretty much true. Most of them were tough but very, very unskilled. Rob was teaching a whole bunch of correct things but they were bitching about like 'we dont get enough sparring or padwork'. Like, bitch, what is the point of sparring when you can't feint or exit after a combo? Sparring with shitty technique will just reinforce those bad habits. And padwork is the most overrated training ever. It's a workout, not an educational tool.
@MrDioXIII3 жыл бұрын
Late reply, but the one guy who came fight ready and followed what Rob was saying won the fucking season. They complained endlessly about just practicing jabs and feints and distance management with no hard sparring, yet Juan, the guy who followed it got an easy semi final victory because of it. Outside distance, feint in, duck out, feint in, finally throws the overhand and floors the opponent with it and the follow up uppercut.

Padwork is an overrated, uneducational workout ? Hot take there buddy
@CableReadyTechnoSIut3 жыл бұрын
@Luke Brown LOL padwork is imperative. What you’re saying is true about it not translating fully into the cage, but that’s mentality/confidence. I just watched a friend have their first smoker, and they looked sharp until they ate a good counter shot and you could see the confidence drain. Once the mentality shifted, they were throwing bar room haymakers looking nothing like their pad work. So yes, while there are many other hurdles to over come, pad work/bag work is essential in learning how to strike. Think about what you just said... “it doesn’t little to help you in an actual fight other than to learn to throw a punch” 🤣 one might argue that’s the most important thing to learn how to do correctly 😂
@steverogers76013 жыл бұрын
You cannot go wrong with: 1.) show up to the job 10minutes early 2.) do what’s asked of you and what’s expected (within moral/ethical/safety reason) 3.) ask questions if you don’t know something or are unsure of it 4.) do it all the way, the proper way, from beginning to end without cutting any corners. 5.) plan ahead and plan accordingly around what is a priority and what isn’t It’s utterly ridiculous that folks planned massages in the middle of a training session when they really aren’t doing anything else the remainder of the day other than training and recovering.
@nut-xn5ol3 жыл бұрын
And you know what? When you rewatch the season, the one guy who listened to Rob and his team and made the most out of it (Juan Espino), ended up winning the HW bracket and is still fighting in the UFC today.

@robertorivera28953 жыл бұрын
@Jason Hardin I think it comes down to principle for him. Rob is obviously a professional person and his job was to train them. When they refuse to listen and end up losing, it's also a reflection of him. Then they complain about about training when they obviously don't have basics down and put it on him. Maybe it's easy to look past it, but this was two months of them not trying and complaining. I get why he would be mad about that situation.

Rob is telling the truth, you have 2 hours to train and you are finding the time for massage in that two hours. How dumb they have to be. You are supposed to battle ready when you enter the house, you got have your striking up, your ground game up, they didn't even had cardio. It takes months just to get your fundamentals right n guess what most of them didn't had any fundamentals. One guy on the show named Anderson good striker lost to someone who was levels below him because he couldn't follow a simple game plan because he didn't listen. You can't build someone up from the ground 0 in 6 weeks. Learning on the job is the worst thing you can do as a fighter.

Just look at that thumbnail, it just says it all. Besides, i don't think even one of his fighters that he coached during that time, can't even achive six pack abs...

Only got two hours and train for 1 that is pathetic....I'm just a normal guy and used to go to boxing training. and not to even fight out of the gym, everyone had to run 3 miles or skip until everyone gets back from the run non stop just to warm up then do 12 three minutes rounds on the bag then a hour of floor work at the end ...and these are high level athletes smh....shout out Bobby knuckles for keeping it 100

As somebody who watch the whole season they were pretty rough but Rob certainly took a pretty hands off approach. I removed when Eddie Alvarez was coach he would actually try to come up with game plans with his team but Rob would repeatedly say things like “I can’t teach you anything new, you just gotta go in there an do what you do”
@iancoughlan53 жыл бұрын
I think he had the right idea to be fair, a few days before a fight is not the time for a whole new approach and new techniques.
@spookyboi3173 жыл бұрын
@@iancoughlan5 Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. I see both sides, but if you got to the ultimate fighter and weren't prepared, Rob's teachings won't save you just before a fight.

@@madtrigger6835 Right. He probably gave up on them after seeing their lack of self discipline and motivation

Both approaches are not wrong. Eddie gameplans to target an opponent's weakness while Rob gameplans to let your existing strength shine. The latter approach is generally more successful (I watch a lot of TUF and a lot of lower level developmental boxing, etc). A couple of weeks is not going to make a difference in terms of new techniques and stuff. If you can't throw good kicks, you're not going to learn how to do it on TUF magically. So you should just drill kicking defense, and move the fight to boxing or grappling ranges. The problem is that if the fighter is not great to begin with, then they're basically doomed (but if you suck, why are you even on TUF)

so these "fighters" can't train two hours a day. they should probably screen better for the show, have like an mma combine for strength and conditioning and minor skill.

If you get to train with one of the best middle weights in the world and you're lazy, just give your slot to someone else. It's a waste of everyone's time.
