I feel bad for her, because I think this is all going to end badly. She has very little in the way of education and zero marketable skills, so I don't blame her for writing a book and doing movie deals, or documentaries or whatever. The interviews she's doing is part of the press tour to promote those things, she's not just attention-seeking. But as others have said, let her breathe. The American prison system doesn't set you up for success after your sentence. I'm hoping whatever money she's making is going towards learning a trade or somehow providing for herself in the future and being a contributing member of society. At best, all of this is going to just blow over and people will move onto something else in a few weeks. At worst, people will turn on her bc the public is fickle, and she'll have to psychologically deal with that on top of all of her other issues.

No one would have ever believed DeeDee about Gypsy’s fictitious ailments had Gypsy not been an amazing actress and played her part exceptionally well. Anyhow, she met Miranda lambert & Blake Sheldon, was taken to a concert for them with complete VIP/ backstage access (several times) & was even given a check for thousands of dollars from Miranda Lambert. That whole thing was set up by make a wish or some other foundation, due to their ongoing lies about the struggle with her “deteriorating health”. I mean, in one way or another, Gypsy has always been a public figure, given speeches, was a guest of honor at events, and got to meet celebrities that she admired. It isn’t far fetched for her to believe that she may just get to meet more people that she idolizes or admires… especially since she’s far more famous now than she was before. What Gypsy went through with her mother is a horrible story, (though, after reading through the information on her case and listening to Gypsy’s own, recent interviews, where she has relayed her various first-hand accounts, to different interviewers, of the exact same abusive incidents, while repeatedly changing key points to be more brutal and abusive, from one host to the next, I do get the feeling that there are multiple parts of her story that may be exaggerated- namely, the parts that she has changed many times). I honestly wish her the best. I studied psychology and from my viewpoint- while this was a chaotic event and a very hard topic to touch…. But she wasn’t mentally capable to really understand fully how to handle the situation. Yes she should do time- but no, we shouldn’t hate her or vilify her. When people go through what she did, they are mentally stunted. Not only was her mom making her pretend that she was sick, but by doing so, it made her “mentally disabled” in a sense (from what I could gather, she seemed to have the mind of someone 7-11). Yes she knew what she did was wrong, but because of how her mother kept her (away from so much of the world), she didn’t know what to do and thought that it was her only option (kids are impulsive, and she was mentally a child). Children also have this thing called “concrete operational thinking.” Concrete operational thinking is a mindset where children of a certain age basically think this way: “It always has been, it still is, and it always will be- there is no change, things are infinite.” For some reason, for the most part, children are incapable of changing their opinions of things (until they get older). So she could have very well thought her life would always be that way. Like I said- I went to college for this. Child criminal psychology to be specific. I didn’t finish or get a degree, but not because I was bad. I was an honor student, with 7 years of classes. I just wasn’t right for the job… Wasn’t about it once I got further in. But just for full disclaimer, I figured I’d mention that. (Gypsy, if you happen to read this, girl- it’s going to be okay. ❤)

So I'm half way through. It's like a prequel biography. Transcripts of phone calls with one of the coauthors that explain everything that went on and some of her art work, then chunks of explaining in 'her' writing (to say she wasn't educated as a child and only caught up in prison I am sure the other coauthor did indeed ghost write or at least heavily edit a lot of those passages because they're better written that you would expect). She's apparently writing a longer memoire to release later in the year. So part of me feels a bit cynical about the book as a bit of a cash in, but most of me can't blame her for that honestly! The problem is actually everyone that surrounds the mother, the idealization of motherhood and not listening to children who speak out, treating children like they're bad and disrespectful when they're just defending themselves, and automatically taking the mother's side no matter what. We need to revise our values as a society. Gypsy refused to be a martyr to her mother's bullshit and I'm here for it.

Thanks for making this content, Robert! Let me preface by saying that I absolutely feel sympathy for her as the victim of horrible abuse by her own mother. I also understand that she wants to tell her story (and she surely needs the money) and I understand ppl wanting to hear it. However, my husband and I thought we were going crazy by feeling gross and put off about all of this notoriety GR was receiving and all of the “fame”. It felt really gross, tacky and inappropriate for the situation. She’s already married before leaving prison and going on a big media blitz. Gypsy should take it way more slowly. I don’t understand the weird stanning at all either or what it says about us as people. The current situation is just - unsettling and when she’s no longer in the spotlight I’m glad she’ll have the time and money to get some much needed therapy. I’m also worried.

Gypsy has said herself in multiple interviews that she regrets she k-ed her mom, that she understands why she was sent to jail and that she understands her situation could’ve been dealt with in another way, as in like yk not killing someone’s, maybe by confronting her mom, which is ofc only something I can say because I’ve never been in a situation where so volatile as Gypsy’s so stating how she should’ve handled it is not what I’ll do, or what anyone should do. But I think it’s so fucking brave and takes so much courage for Gypsy to have had the chance to learn and grow, not only by understanding the medical severity of her mom and herself, but also that she understands the reason she went to jail and has come to terms with it, at least how she portrays her sentiments to the public, but it takes so much power and bravery to take a step back and grow, especially in her situation, which she didn’t have to show remorse if she wanted, I’m sure most people wouldn’t care cuz of the hype around her, but to have the empathy and understanding of the situation, your abuser mom nonetheless, definitely shows that gypsy has been through major changes and growth. I don’t really appreciate people online basically telling a person everything that they have overcome to make peace with themselves and strive for a better life to basically throw it all away for what? Memes on tiktok? Throwing trendy phrases at her? Making fun or light or the situation when the women literally stepped into the real world for the first time in 5+ years for something that she thinks is wrong? Just for people to get mad or turn their backs on her when something happens only because people are always looking for the next trendy case and person, it’s a huge bandwagon and Gypsy doesn’t deserve to be so frugal
@KristenHarmala10 ай бұрын
Gypsy did try at one point to escape, but she was brought back to her mother after the cops found her and Dee Dee told everyone that Gypsy was mentally incompetent and had gotten legal power of attorney over her. Dee Dee even tied her daughter to a bed, beat her and threatened to kill her if she ever tried to run away again... The cops would not have believed anything Gypsy said to them due to Dee Dee's manipulation. Someone like Dee Dee CANNOT be reasoned with. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves. Regarding the obsessed "fans", I am almost 27 and I don't understand, nor have I ever understood these "YAS Queens", Instagram/TikTok obsessed people and literally only use social media for keeping in touch with people/ posting artwork... Call me an old soul. Gypsy deserves a peaceful life, and these people should just back off, stop projecting their little fantasies onto her and leave her be.

She went from being abised by a relative to being abused by the media, just like Britney Spears. That's so unfair. But the fact that so many people are okay with taking the life of another is disturbing.

look. curiosity is inherent to humanity, like it or not. don't act like it's beneath you lol. making memes about here right as this is happening though? while she is alive and out there and open to reading it, now that's just wanting to do a diservice to her mental health. but curiosity about true crime? muh dude. what age are you? there's nothing wrong with it. I, myself, learn a lot about personality profiles from different takes on cases, and coming from a shitty family and relationship myself, i can learn a thing or too about red flags for example. i can't speak for everyone, but really, let's not pretend that if not for learning purposes, it's in many people's nature to at least stare at a fire. unavoidable.

@abigailxmary10 ай бұрын
@@magical571theres an argument for both sides tbh. A lot of true crime content creators are distasteful and disrespectful, in my opinion, people also get weirdly obsessed with watching it. On the other hand, it can really help people to become a lot more aware of the people around them and help them identify certain patterns of behaviour as dangerous. I used to watch certain true crime creators (not the likes of danielle kirsty, bailey sarian or stephanie harlowe who i think are just pure disrespectful) but i realised around 2020 that it was making my anxious tendencies worse and also made me slightly paranoid/hypervigilant when around strangers. It can be so helpful from a psychology point of view, but it can also spiral into something extremely unhealthy.

I think for me, the obsession with her and her case and her release from prison has nothing to do with who she was and is and her trauma and her as a person. Instead, it has more to do with making her a "character". There's so much going on in the world politically and health wise right now and the fact that people are "Stan Twitter"-ing this woman who went through so much and probably just wants to live a chill life is honestly twisted asf. The depth of the parasocial relationship here is so crazy. It feels like the FreeBrittney Movement where many people pushed the termination of Brittney's conservatorship, not because they care about her but because it was a popular hashtag and a popular thing to say.
@figblossomdesigns10 ай бұрын
I think people getting talking about medical child abuse especially now with the Maya Kowalski case going on would be really helpful! Especially since in the USA child abuse reporting systems could really be impacted by the family winning the case against the hospital in the Maya case - which would mean mandated reporters can face felony charges for not reporting suspected abuse but if they do report it they can face legal action by the family - this would really impact a lot of kids in tough situations who need help, so Gypsy talking about her experience and shining light on this will make people think more on this than what they might have seen in the netflix doc. I do think some people on social media are making too many jokes or taking advantage of her situation for content that is rude and putting pressure on her to perform for social media, but hopefully she can use her platform to help reduce medical child abuse and help other kids in that situation ❤
@colleensibayan381710 ай бұрын

I feel so bad for what Gypsy Rose went through, the abuse her mother inflicted on her. If people would actually stop and take just a moment to listen to HER and to do a bit of research instead of creating a narrative for her, they would find out that she realizes the severity of what she did. She realizes her mother was very mentally ill, even though at the time of the murder she didn’t feel like she had other options. She even says she misses her mother. Yes, she is free from the abuse and thank God for that, but she also has to live with what she has done, and for that she is very remorseful. She has said that inside of prison was the first time she felt free to make decisions and to make friends 😳 but no amount of time inside or outside of prison can take away the thoughts in her head or the reality of her situation. I agree that people need to leave her alone. Let her have some space and time to just BE. To get to know herself and to become acclimated to the world that she has never really known. I’ve also read that The Act isn’t really all that factual. I don’t know for sure. I am interested in what Gypsy Rose herself has to say, so I will be watching her Lifetime special. I wish her the best and I hope she is doing well ❤️ I have to say I did have to pause the video and giggle when you said Gypsy Rose Lee and then covered your mouth and corrected yourself 😆 I’m older and know who that is and what she’s about 😂 it was too funny. How fuqd up is that?! That's crazy… I would be really careful idolizing her, giving her all of this “attention”… or believing anything comes out of her mouth… does anybody see this? She might be following just her mother's footsteps... Telling a bunch of lies in her book on TV or whatever to keep on getting people’s ATTENTION… She already manipulated someone into committing murder… murder is murder no excuses because you were the victim of abuse… there are social services even in the US… she proved to be clever enough (in the wrong way), she could've find some other way to break her cage instead of plotting murder, but of course, understandably, she didn't have the mental tools to navigate reality very well, since she has been living a lie for most of her life… She doesn't need a manager… she needs time and space and lots of therapy to recover from what she did and from a lifetime of abuse
