That Tom Waits album sounds really great too. It was recorded live in the studio and mixed directly to two track tape as it was performed.

It’s a lot of fun to find good vinyl records for cheap prices. Last Saturday, I found Leo Sayer’s “Endless Flight” (1976), The Partridge Family’s Greatest Hits, and Three Dog Night’s “Suitable for Framing”(1969) for 1 dollar apiece.

It's great to find stuff in the wild. I just picked up a four-LP lot (the records were sold in lots) by someone who had no idea what they had. I got 1 good (but not valuable) record, 2 metal grails that fetch over $100 each, and another rarity all for $35.

Some good finds you got bob marley, tom waits, and velvet underground. My first tom waits record was nighthawks at the diner you definitely need to check that one out. Tom waits earlier music from the 70's till around the mid 80's sounds more jazzy/bluesy then around the mid eighties he got more experimental. It's all good I just think for some people his experimental stuff is acquired listening his album raindogs is another favorite. I also have the same VU record and I gotta say foggy notion is probably the best song on there. I still believe their debut album with nico is their best.

I’ve got the 2nd pressing of Germs (GI) too, and I’ve always thought the same thing about how great it sounds. Even beat up copies of that record sound great. Darby’s voice powers right through scratches. I did pay about 35 times what you paid. Great find!

Willie Nelson's "Stardust" album was the best selling lp when I began working in country radio, spring 1978. It was a precursor to 1983's "What's New" by Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle. Willie's lp contains three hit singles -- Georgia on My Mind, Blue Skies and All of Me.

Foreign Affairs was my first exposure to Tom Waits as well. I drank a lot back then, so this album was right down my alley. Man, I loved this record. So depressing, so sad at times, so drunk was I. Speaking of Jim Jarmusch, Waits was in Down by Law. Smashing video, Robert.

Somewhere around 20 years ago I found a first pressing of that Germs album for about the same cost as yours…and then sold it for what was a good amount of money at the time, probably around $50. I see what it goes for now and kick myself.

$3 Germs. Incredible. I also prefer the single version of Lexicon Devil. However, I would enjoy hearing the album version on a clean second pressing I got for $3 more than hearing the single version on my phone! Woah, that thought about car accidents and voices on the radio was pretty interesting. All I will say is, if your on-air persona was as humorous as your KZbin persona, they went out on a high note. You always crack me up.

Cool finds! I've mostly given up on estate sales, garage sales etc for records. The only time i have any luck with records at estate sales is when it is a huge estate sale with things that have more of a cult following of collectors. Like sports memorabilia, hummels etc. Glad you had good luck. Also, sure you know but Fela Kuti did a few albums with Ginger Baker in the early/mid 70s. It goes into a little detail about it in the ginger baker documentary. A pretty wild watch if you're ever interested. Cheers.

Estate sales are cream for buying used albums. You just have to get there early to beat the scalpers...er...collectors. I love when the people running them ask me how much I'm willing to pay. My response is always the same, "I don't pay more than a dollar for a used album." 9 out of 10 times they bite. Sometimes they try to play hard ball and say $2.00, thinking they just swindled a sucker when I agree, and pat themselves on the back for their mad negotiation skills. Still, there's always an underlining hint of sadness when I go to estate sales. I just have to wonder, are these vultures going to circle over my house when I am gone and pay pennies on the dollar for my life? It's kind of disgusting when you think about it.
@RobertFithen9 ай бұрын
