In this video I am drawing an image of Batman that was originally drawn by the amazing Jason Fabok. I was so impressed with this shot of Batman that I wanted to see if I could redraw it on my iPad Pro.
I create studies like this one to learn from other artists and gain insights into my own work. Be sure to check out Jason's work and I hope you enjoy this video!
Here is a link to his blog - jasonfabok.blog...
Thanks for watching and more on the way!

Redrawing illustrations that you like as an artist is basically the exact same thing as practicing existing songs as a musician. It's a great way to get a feel of what works and what doesn't.

No complaints here, it's the one way I started out. Looking over Jim Lee, Greg Capullo etc. Learned alot about detail. And in a sense I developed a level of respect for the characters I was mimicing.

I used to redraw Art Adams stuff for the very same reason. You learn how they did the drawing and in doing that learn how to apply those things to your own work. Somewhere around here I have the first half dozen pages from the action comics annual art did with superman, batman and the vampire Skeeter that I redrew many years ago. That book took my own art to another level by redrawing that...

Sir: Imitation of the "Old Masters" or ANY masterwork used to be an understood part of a novice's training. I'm planning on doing the same with a frame-sequence or two from an animated series I greatly admire. It is a fast way to learn a lot. Great video.

Excellent. Master study is really the only real way of improving and learning how to draw from imagination. Learning methods, you're just trying to emulate someone else's process... it's analytical and not creative. But when you analyze something yourself, you make it your own. Great job, again. Would love to see more master copy videos from you!

Reminds me of when I would do the "How to draw Batman" in Wizard magazines. The style is even very close to the one I remember being portrayed.

An artist to an artist I've noticed the characters you draw have a smaller lower half of the face, it stands out and it kinda looks odd. If you changed that it would drastically improve your artwork.
