the great American fighters used to come from poverty. long time ago. Just like Duran they would have to do everything they could to make sure their parents and siblings had enough to survive. then came welfare. now these ppl get thousands of dollars in food stamps and money from the taxpayers just for having children. which they spend on shoes and goofy clothes, and the newest iphone. it isn't anywhere near the same as it was. that why American boxing is low now, these guys don't wanna work hard because they never have had too. they don't truly struggle for greatness because they don't have strong character. when boxing does have anything that resembles greatness these days, it's from Eastern Europe area. China, places like that. Duran had it ROUGH in Panama. and tried hard for his family. and then for himself and his ppl

The late 70’s were such a great era for Welterweights. I was a Pipino Cuevas fan. He remains my all time favorite athlete, but I was also a fan of Duran, Palomino, Leonard and Benitez. @@Boxing_Classics I have a Pipino Cuevas quote for you when you do his documentary. I read/memorized this quote from a boxing magazine before the Cuevas / Hearns fight. Cuevas manager was asked about the height difference between Cuevas and Hearns and if Cuevas was nervous. He replied, “Pipino is like a bull. You can tell the bull that the matador has killed 500 bulls. The bull is not impressed”. That made such an impression on me as a kid, I never forgot it. It isn’t all about winning, it’s about fearlessly facing your challenges. That’s why I love all fighters.

Leonard didn't do anything different because the first fight Duran wouldn't let him breath so it was hard for Leonard to box when a guy is slipping your punches and rocking you.Duran stop his game plan by staying in his face.totally different Duran in the second fight and Ray new it.
